A tire has a tube and a valve, so it cant be the same thing... Some of my stash... Yes, a tube is something hollow, usually with parallel sides, so the glass enclosures of electrical devices are not really 'tubes'. Valves are devices for controlling flow, so a 12ax7 can be called a valve, but it is not a tube. PT PS:you may have noticed in previous posts that I have used both tube and valve to mean a glass enclosure in an amplifier , I may carry on doing this.

One thing that grates on me is how folks (and Americans in particular) use the term "electronics" when referring to guitar wiring. (although that is ABSOLUTELY NOT intended as a slight on Americans whom I find to be far more welcoming and inclusive than us Limeys, especially "small town" Americans.)
"Electronics" implies the deployment of semi conductors or valves/vacuum tubes, whether amplifying, oscillating or non-mechanical switching. There are no such electronics in passively wired electric guitars. They are not electronic guitars- they're electric guitars. There is no such thing as "ground" in a guitar either- only signal return. Les Harvey and many other unfortunate victims would vouch for the unwelcome effect of the sudden introduction of true ground potential to guitar wiring... but just like American English versus British English, we all know what is meant so we let it pass. Two nations divided by a language ;<D
If we see "tube" as an abreviation of "vacuum tube" then it is just as valid a noun as "valve". Personally, I prefer valve.
Let's not get started on the use of "So" to begin every sentence because we have already drifted off topic!

My grandma used to say the radio is broken, must need a new bulb... I grew up in Bloomfield New Jersey. Nearby were the Westinghouse, Tung Sol, GE and RCA tube factories. Too bad I wasnt saavy enough to go dumpster diving at the time. My uncle was an engineer that worked for DuMont, also nearby, developing the early Television systems. Another uncle had a TV and radio repair shop where I spent every day after school and Saturdays. Both left some interesting things behind. But the best bounty of vacuum tubes are found in old organs that can be found pretty cheaply, or nearly free in salvage stores.

[note to Pickers Ditch, find a Dynaco projector, if available there. judging by the 6 volt pre in V1, from a highly desirable time frame] www.triodeel.com/dynamk3.gifmitchfit * bottle-a compromise misnomer. not in any way an actual description of same, but an artful side stepping of correct options.

Fred, your Grandma nailed it. BULB is better than tube and valve. That's exactly what they are. Grandmas know! Some people over here call KT66s 'milk bottles', but bulb is much better Shine On Michael.

a valid observation, but the above is more about musical tools than the end product.
