Hello all, Got myself a new used guitar and it has some light rash in the way of pick marks and scratches. Nothing through the finish but aggravating none the less. After doing the google thing it seems a lot of peeps are using automotive purposed products which gives me a case of the willies. I've got an email to the maker but any experience or tips much appreciated as I've never done anything other than use some Gibson guitar wax over the years and lived with whatever scars my guitars have accumulated. Its a Beard Odyessy A model reso... Incredible sound, almost plays itself and if I have to find fault it's the JD pickup. This beast is loud enough and the PU is overly feedback prone in the bass register. Doesn't matter as I don't need amplification on the porch. Pics to come... One o' these days TiA and best to y'all Jeff

Hi Jeff,
They're great guitars.
It would help us to see some photos of the scratches. From your description, I am sure they will polish out.

Seems google photo will generate a link to an album which requires login and not a simple hypertext link. I'm sure that another couple hours frustration, a new device and software upgrades to make it work and I'll be postin pics... I miss good old windows 98se This is beyond frustrating, I won't quit it, but I will put it down for a while... Edit: I need some advice as to what is a good photo app that will allow me to embed pics. Thanks, J

Thanks, J I think the way the forum works there are two methods - you can "insert image" from a picture uploaded to a website or photobucket and the picture will show up is one way. I use the "Add Attachment button" upper right near the gear. Click on it and an "Add Files" comes up. My picture has already been downloaded to a folder from my camera. I find it and select. The final step is to click on "insert" Hope this helps. PS I am interested in the topic for my own scratches on guitars. Best, Harriet

Thanks Harriet, I don't believe there is an attachment add option when using my phone. I uploaded the photo to google pics but my I pad is now obsolete in that apple has released new versions of its operating system that the I pad won't run... Google photos won't work with the older OS... This all used to be easy in that picasa allowed generating an embed link. it's replacement, google photos does not. Embarrassing that a couple of the wealthiest corporations on the planet release such wonky crud and the public laps it up for the most part. Shame that what used to take a few seconds now requires a few hours and is really just a push to buy another device and endure the inevitable software upgrade to make it work. I have three apple computers and two I pads and they all have been made useless by the upgrade path of apple and the admetric commercialization of the Internet by companies like google. Don't even ask me about the dial up performance speeds of my ISP... Where there's a will there's a way... I'll be emailing it to myself and then posting it from another computer, in the mean time, ill be playin the creolian blues on this here guitar... Wish me luck

Tried to add attachment and clicking on the option in that window does nothing... I give up ! Edit: won't let me use the image As an avatar either... Jiva script on, pop ups unblocked, privacy turned off. Nothing another 500$ device won't fix

That may be true, but if the ADD ATTACHMENT box opened, while it was open and the attachment is added, did you also click on "INSERT" top right and then "DONE", not "ADD ATTACHMENT" and then "DONE", in case that's the issue. I've made that mistake a couple of times so I though I'd check...

The Add attachment window opened but the +files button does nothing...
I really appreciate your help but this is my problem in that I choose not to follow the (endless) upgrade path that will fix it. I'd rather donate the money to a worthy charity or buy another guitar at this point. I've been working with computers since 1986 and at this pimento of time, I'm afraid another powerful information sharing medium is going the way of television...At least here in the U$A. The Internet worked pretty well until the monetization of user data and advertising took priority. I just can't justify paying for hardware and bandwidth of which half of is used to try and sell me crap I don't want or need. The sad irony is even my old g4 still works well rendering fairly hi res video, audio, word processing etc and is useless as a simple web browser due to "upgrades." Rant over !
I apologize to you, Michael and the group for wasting time and bandwidth with this absurdity.
All best,
Jeff

Well said J, I agree 110%. The trouble is that's the American way, and where she leads we follow with increasing urgency... All those lovely old "mom 'n' pop store" websites are sadly history. I chucked Google out and use Duckduckgo. It has its own issues but they are as nothing compared to the behemoth(s) privacy harvesting addiction. Another apology then so back to scratches. I have a Heritage Sweet16 archtop with a nasty "V" shaped scratch on the upper bout. I took it to a widely respected "luthier" (guitar whacker) who said "do you know what that is?" A Heritage Sweet16 says I."No- that's *A GUITAR* -Live with it" says he.) It is nitro finished and thus eminently "fixable", if I could get it re-worked I would but I have learned to live with it as recommended. (Thanks Joe).
e&oe...

I happened to be at the local Luther, Frank Harlow's home, a well known Midwest builder. He also does repairs.
Public tv just did an hour program of his work. It is on line. Most of Gene Wootens recordings are with his guitars.
He noticed the typical minor scratches on my guitar. He got out a bottle of Mcguire's #9. It is a hand rubbing compound sold in auto stores. He said, "the secret weapon".
In a few seconds the scratches disappeared. Magic!
A bottle is a lifetime supply and then some.
