Hi there ! If you are in the UK, or perhaps even Europe, I found a great deal on Flitz polishing paste for all your nickel-plated guitars out there. Especially worth it if you have multiple plated guitars, and/or with many friends in same predicament. Sale price on a large tube of Flitz polish - just £10. Those tiny wee "sample" sized sachets are usually £1 each, or more. www.frost.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/2277I don't had any connection with the company other than I have bought one of these tubes in the past - and can safely say one tube will last a lifetime of polishing !!!

Thanks Richard. I'll keep it in mind for the future. Currently I use Mer wax after a quick wipe with John Lewis silver polish to remove sweat/finger marks.

Hi again !
Silver polish may be too abrasive/aggressive for nickel-plating. You could hurt the value of your guitar, potentially.

The advice on that website states that Flitz is not suitable for electro-plated finishes. I wonder if that could that be a typo because you clearly have confidence in its efficacy for our plated resos.

This is by far the best polish I have used and I have tried them all. (Recommended by Mike Lewis) It is only available in France. Amazon.fr for example. Shine On Michael

Has anyone attempted and/or had any success with heavy polishing or buffing either a vintage nickle finish or import cheapo plating that has been badly oxidized and fogged?

I used "Nvr Dull" on fogged Republic handrest and it really worked - recommended by the late Frank Helsley and Keni Lee Burgess, but like Snakehips recommendations on his product, just a very little. It smells of petroleum product- eww. Since the initial treatment I use "Blue Magic" for maintenance.
I don't know anything about oxidized chrome though.

I've used JL silver polish on the NRP Style O for 20 years, no ill effects. Silver is a very soft metal so the polishes are not abrasive.

Hi Michael,
Could you tell us what is different about your recommended polish, compared to something like Flitz, please ?
Is it easier to apply and wipe off, and/or easier to actually produce a nice mirror-like polish, and/or is the polished surface visibly better than what you get with Flitz, or what ?
Many thanks !
