Interesting! I haven't used the Q2n but it looks like Zoom have addressed some of the issues with its predecessor the Q2 HD. The new version has a wider angle lens: the field of view was a real drawback of the Q2 HD.
The new shape of the Q2n looks like a mixed blessing: great for putting on the coffee table to record your performance for YouTube but maybe not as good as the Q2 HD for handheld recording.
If you get one Gaucho, I would be interested to get a field report on it. My Q2 HD is getting a bit long in the tooth, maybe time for a relacement.

Got the Zoom Q2n and it's very simple and produces high quality audio and video. Here's my 1st test. Any degradation of the quality is from the edit/resize rather than from the recorder. The kitchen turned out to not be a great place to record my NRP Tricone, too bright! Excuse my sloppy playing, I'm not very good on a tricone. Single cone seems to suit me better...

Hi Gaucho,
I haven't tried the new Q2n, but I am sure that it is as good as all Zoom portable recording/filming products. They always come up with great products.
A year or so ago I bought a Zoom iQ7 mic for my iPhone and it's fantastic. My eight year old Zoom H4n recorder still works perfectly and does a great job. The only downside for me with Zoom products is that to keep prices down they use cheap plastic casing for all these products. I would pay more for better quality.
Thanks for sharing your video.

In both your video and one I saw online as a review, including their product demo there seems to be a fisheye/perspective type thing going that would discourage me from buying it.

Hi Harriet! It is wide (but not GoPro wide) but you can adjust the field of view (zoom in) or crop a bit and eliminate that. I shot too wide for sure. I now know why a lot of the videos online are cropped tight and show little or no face! Also, I shot it on 720x30 frames and have found that there is really no reason (for me) not to use the maximum resolution (1080x30). They wanted to keep it simple and they did a very good job of that while still maintaining enough features to give excellent quality. As you know, I use a lot of different cameras in my job and for the money, I'm very impressed with this.

Just to add I enjoyed the post - off topic but I think you have some of the consistently great sounding resonators ( and acoustic) I've heard and I will take your word for it that its a good deal, hoping that anyone who might get one, including myself would be able to resolve any issues with cropping from your tips.

I played with the zoom feature and it works well. It was really meant to be simple, point and shoot and it's very good at that. Mine was a super deal. Found it on B&H as an open box demo, as new, full warranty. $100 shipped! I'm enjoying it and hope to post more videos. I think it will really help me get over my fear of having other people hear me try to play.
Even at full price, which seen so to be around $159 (MSRP is $250) it's a good bit cheaper than a Go Pro. The video is almost as good and the audio is vastly superior!

Hi there,
I have just purchased this item and not sure what I am doing wrong but I cannot seem to get any sound from my recordings when copied onto my pc. Has anyone any ideas or had this problem? I hear the sound clearly when listening to it on the q2n so it has recorded sound. Plugged in the USB cable from q2n into USB on the pc saved it in music files and all I seem to get is the visual recording. Once this is resolved it should be great. The picture quality is superb ! Thanks Marko
