Hi there !
I met this young Scottish chap, Thomas Lucas, at one of my gigs earlier this year - and have been checking out his youtube videos. He plays prewar blues styles on guitar and piano and on harmonica. Gonna get him to do a few tunes with me at my next gig next Thursday (in Falkirk).
This is him on guitar, backing himself on e.piano (he must have pre-programmed/recorded it into the e.piano's memory)
Just in case you didn't think it is him playing piano, check this out : (he has pre-recorded himself playing guitar and singing, then played piano live, along with it).
And here he is playing harmonica, along to a JB Lenoir track :
I'm quite impressed.

This is a genuine comment, I'm not taking the piddle here so don't take this the wrong way or there will be an outcome. I just wish I didn't live so far away, I would love to see this young man play in Falkirk. At last, someone over this side of the Atlantic who sings blues songs in his own natural voice and accent. Mr. Lucas showing how to distance himself and the guitar/piano from the recording mic. too - unconscious RL thoughts as well? Great stuff - thars talent in them thar hills! Thanks for posting SH.

I was just saying to him that Muddy Waters ruined his own 1950's blues career (for being popular and making money) by introducing a young certain Charles Berry to Leonard Chess. After that point, no one wanted to buy blues anymore, a reminder of the old times, when they could buy upbeat rock'n'roll, the latest thing, instead. So I told him to go easy on me !!!
I feel it important to give the young guys a chance. Sure, jam sessions are a good way to start, but at some point you need to get a shot at a real gig - even if just for a few numbers.

He's good. I never heard anyone nail Peetie Wheatstraw like that. The Devils Scottish son-in-law.

I'm playing an hour solo set (but will get the young lad up for a couple of numbers), then a band is on after. falkirkbluesclub.comI don't understand the organisers of the blues club. I've told them at least once before that they need to put the address of WHERE the blues club is, in their website, if thy want anyone to go - yet they still haven't put the address in. They don't advertise how much it is to get in and they don't advertise up and coming gigs - only the next gig due on. The venue - Barristas (coffee shop), 18 Grahams Road, Falkirk. £5 ticket/door. Starts 8pm, Finishes 11pm (I think, perhaps a bit later).

Hi again,
Well, after a very successful, all-day rehearsal on Saturday just passed, this young lad has now joined our band, and we are again a 3-piece band - the "Mud In Your Ear Trio". I started "Mud In Your Ear" before Thomas was even born !!!
Thomas, or "T" as we now call him, plays guitar, piano, harmonica, mandolin, 6-string banjo, washboard and jug, all in very authentic pre-war styles, plus he is amazing at Little Walter harmonica style too. With Prof Scratchy on vintage Stellas, Stella 12-strings and Nationals, plus occasional Mandolin, ukulele and even Jimmy Yancey style piano, and my acoustic/reso/electric guitar & slide-guitar, piano, washboard and ukulele playing, I think we have got most bases covered. Actually, bass and drums - not covered - but not really needed !!
Couldn't be more delighted ! First gig in January - for a "Blues Dancers" club, in Edinburgh.

Sounds great SH. (...and if you need a bass player...... ) Hopefully we will be up to Penicuik early in 2017 and we'll try and catch a gig whilst we're there. Best of luck and keep stompin'. PD.

Hi again !
Gig this Saturday in Edinburgh !
The "Mud In Your Ear Trio" will be playing this Saturday 7th January 2017, in Edinburgh, at the Leith Depot, half way down the left side of Leith Walk. DJ playing blues music starts at 7pm, and plays alternate sets with Mud In Your Ear.
Allan Jones, Richard O'Donnell, and new recruit, multi-instrumentalist, much younger and more sensible hairstyle, Thomas Lucas, playing you authentic blues. Expect to hear pre-war blues, on up to 1950's blues, on a variety of guitars, Nationals, 12-string Stella, piano, harmonica, mandolin, washboard and jug (perhaps even 6-string Banjo) ! So, let Prof Scratchy, Snakehips, and "T" play the blues for you !!! Bring your slow-dancing shoes, as this gig is hosted by "Auld Reekie Blues Club" for "Blues Dancers". See ya there !!!

Well, if you are around, come by and see our gig ! I'd be really happy to but Mrs. PD is suffering from a low down disease so we won't be travelling far for a few weeks or so. But you guys have a great time and knock 'em dead!

Hi again !
Got a gig this Saturday (tomorrow) in Dundee with Thomas.
However, here is some footage of Thomas doing a gig with Prof Scratchy, Easter time.
Sorry, I missed the start of the song. Thomas is playing Prof's vintage 12-string Stella guitar AND harmonica on a rack !
