Hi! I would appreciate anyone's views/opinions on the following:- I have become well aware of how critical the break angle is on National style resonators but I'm unsure about the same on spider bridge reso's. I've read about square neck 'Dobro' players doing things like raising that already high action and or under-stringing the tail piece in order to create a greater break angle and therefor more pressure on the bridge/cone assembly. I'm not intending to do either of these things, the break angle on my first set up is already very steep and while the guitar now sounds incredibly loud with a huge ringing sustain, it seems a little bass light and a tad too shrill with that 'nasal' quality not very evident. It would certainly cut through in a band situation' which is why I suspect the above adjustments are made in the first place, but not so pleasant solo.
Also, and excuse me if this sounds daft but can the saddle be too short? Tricone saddles should be fairly short but 'Dobro' style saddle tend to stand taller above the bridge. If I am to reduce the break angle this is the obvious fix but because I've replaced the bridge with a Beard No. 14 model which sits higher, there is now only about 8-9mm of saddle showing. Reducing this further will give it a look which I've not seen before but will it matter?
Thanks, Chris.
