Hi there !
Dave King is the official National Resophonic daler and reapir luthier, in the UK, if your guitar is a modern National Resophonic. What's the serial number? I used to have a brass Style 1.5 NRP Tricone (SN 095).
Or is your Tricone a vintage National guitar ?

I'm sure folks here will confirm my comments, but resonator guitars are a totally different beast to 'regular' guitars, and although there are dozens of top guitar tech's out there that can work their magic on most instruments ~ reso's are a different kettle of fish!!
One reso-tech that many would recommend is John Alderson at Delta Resonator Guitars in Leicestershire (www.deltaresonatorguitars.co.uk) who has worked on several forum members reso's with impressive results - other than that, you're looking at further North i'm afraid.
Slide On!
Ian.

Hi Littlefeat,
Welcome to our forum.
You have a problem there, because while your man at Feline Guitars might be a master luthier, it is highly likely that he knows nothing about resonator guitars, let alone a Tricone. I have seen numerous National guitars ruined by so called expert luthiers. This is a very specialised area that only a few luthiers can deal with.
If you are not able to go to the NRP recommended repairer, I only know one other person in London that I would recommend to dismantle a Tricone and that is Bill Puplett. Bill is one of the world's master luthier/repairers and only takes on occasional work these days. Your other options in the UK are; John Alderson at Delta Resonator Guitars, Steve Evans at Beltona Guitars, Ralph Bown in York. If you want my recommendation, these are the only people I recommend in the UK. There are other people around who I have heard can do a great job on a National guitar, but I am not prepared to recommend them without really knowing their capabilities.

Hi again !
Spill the beans, come on ! What could possibly be up with a NRP guitar that is well under 5yrs old, unless it was damaged accidentally ?

Hi, phone or email National Resophnics & tell them about the problem with the tail piece & I am sure you will find them very helpful (sounds like Dave King sent you out one that he had knocking around his workshop. I dont think that you have a bad problem. If the tail piece snapped the pressure on the cones would be removed & something in the guitar may well have moved causing your problems.

NRP tailpieces snapping, was a problem they had for a while. I am surprised you received a scratched one. I would have asked for another.
I am not surprised about the intonation. That is because the cones have moved with no string pressure holding them in place. String height changing is a bit baffling, but a resophonic 'expert' will put this right.
Unless you want to take your guitar to John Alderson, Steve Evans, Ralph Bown or Mike Lewis, I think you have to bite the bullet and take it to Dave King. Like it or not, there is nobody else in the London area with his experience. Bill Puplett is the only other person, but I doubt he would take it on at present.
There is nothing magical or special quality about NRP tailpieces. If you want a new shiny one, there are plenty available online. I will have some in stock at the end of January, but not before.

Hi again,
My NRP rubbed finish, nickel-plated brass tailpiece that broke last weekend was on my 1930 National Style O. The tailpiece was purchased directly from NRP in 2009, and put on the guitar when I got it. I don't remember if I put it in the guitar case for Dave King to install, when he worked on the rest of the guitar, or if I put it on the guitar myself, when I got my guitar back from him, in fantastic newly restored condition.
It was 6yrs old though, and NRP sent me a new replacement, free of charge. Mind you, I have been a good customer.
