Izzy... I don't see anything in any of my comments that specified anyone's RACE. Maybe you can point out where I specified race as a factor... Thanks for doing that and discrediting your argument. I usually have the good sense to walk away from arguments where there is no fact involved. This is one.
This is not a discussion where there is any right or wrong side. I appreciate that some folks have cared to interject and offer some perspective.

Stevie and Deuce: Fred is a big boy, and an intelligent man. He can take of himself. I am merely trying to understand his statements. Nothing more. Fred, you implied that Corey Harris is not a real deal blues man because he has eduction and makes money. Imagine that, a black blues man with money and education. However, I think you regret making the statement and would like the conversation to end, so I am happy to let it end here. Not to speak for Corey Harris, but I think these kinds of attitudes fuel his anger against the subject of whites playing and singing the blues. When a white man can say on a blues forum that education and money, and not suffering enough in life, preclude a black man from being a real deal blues man, it is certain to make him angry. First of all you manipulated a portion of Fredcapo's comments to a misinterpretation that you are presenting as gospel and I personally found insulting to Fredcapo. On that basis you have also been requiring him to address and explain to you why he said what you say he said and in a sense placate you. Secondly I don't believe the comment on Deuce or Stevie is not appropriate and I will add my own support to Fredcapo and I am sorry he has been put to the test for a humorous remark. Thirdly, no one has remotely said what you claim on the third paragraph on this forum, which actually to my mind ostensibly refutes your claim that you are happy to let the conversation drop in the first. Let it go or move to another forum where they are happy to bicker on misinterpretations.

Was "Corey" Harris related to "Wee Willy" Harris I wonder... e&oe. Here in Cambridge UK, corey has the same slang meaning as willy, so there could be a link. PT Like Stevie ,I was hoping to lighten the tone, on a forum it can be hard to find the right thing to say, and very easy to use the wrong words

It was a (wasted) attempt to derail the thread.

Harriet,
You appear to have misinterpreted my remark that was intended to support Fredcapo. Therefore, I sincerely hope that you don't follow your own advice and move off to pastures new because I for one always value your contributions.
It has never been my practise to don the devil's advocate cap, but there are those on this forum that do so with apparent glee. Fortunately, they are few in number.
Please accept my apology if you derived something from my first post that was not my intended meaning.

I feel like I should, after indirectly dragging other folks into this, say what I should have instead of dropping out... My original quip had a humorous intent, but as in all humor there is some underlying truth...
I know this is a bad idea to continue, but here goes... Quite simply I would not include CH in the ranks of, for example, Hound Dog Taylor, Robert Lockwood, Etta James, Roy Bookbinder, and many others who in my mind followed similar paths of the true early masters. I feel that CH followed a different path. No more, no less. The fact that social status, education or money was in the picture does make it a different path, with a different personal toll or expenditure. Can't say any more than that. Thanks.

Whatever may or may not have been implied, I don't recall that Fredcapo wrote that CH was not a "real deal blues man", just posssibly the first that had the benefit of some priviledge or another. e&oe... Stevie - Sorry I don't think I misinterpreted your first post above, perhaps some awkward wording on my part made it seem that way? I thought it was a good post and I tried to support it. Please PM me if there are issues to straighten out... Lawd Lawdy, Harriet UPDATE - I just blocked Izzydunne, I think that would make the forum a more pleasant place for me.

Slide 496;
"let it go or move on to another forum where they are happy to bicker."
I don't see anyone bickering. I see grown people trying to have a discussion that you don't approve of, and as a result you want to shut it down. Well my dear, discussions are designed to make people think, and they sometimes require people to become uncomfortable as their paradigms are questioned. There are no safe spaces or victims of micro aggression. Everyone needs to put their big boy or big girl pants on and talk like adults without someone wanting to end discussions.
Fred:
I would not include Corey Harris in the ranks of people like Roy Bookbinder."
Oh My God, this is getting funny. Now don't get me wrong, I like Roy Bookbinder, and have bought one of his products. However, if you said to Roy that "you are in the club but Corey Harris is not" you would probably get a look of disbelief.
