I was fortunate enough to purchase a mint condition 1965 or so danelectro 3021 (reissues called DC59) about 20 years ago. It was almost the exact model used by JP. I got it for several hundred dollars. It was equipped with the original strings and it was the most fantastic sounding electric slide guitar...and I can't explain or understand why. Maybe the flat fingerboard and the old strings which were bronze looking and possibly flat wound. For whatever reason I put it on eBay, and when the bidding went over $3K I let it go... Still miss it.

I have a late '90's U1 reissue that came with a broken headstock and bent bridge/tailpiece. Managed to locate a replacement neck and purchased a steel bridge with intonated rosewood saddle from a fella in NY. Some of the reissue Dano's had cast tailpieces and bent into a 'U' shape where the D and G were high, the rest of the strings lower with the 'E's likely rubbing on the frets. This guitar has turned into an excellent electric slide player, overall cost about $300CDN. The metal nut helps get the growl.
