I wonder if she got the serial # wrong, With the flat F holes and ribbed coverplate, it should be a late '32 or early '33 I think. Unless the coverplate isn't original, but it sure looks like it is...

Hi there !
Looks great !! Snap it up !
Looks like the action is fairly high, so factor in the cost of a neck reset £200-300 and send it to Steve Evans of Beltona resonator guitars, in Leeds, and get it playing like a monster !!!

Looks like somebody made an off-eBay deal... If it turns upon you-know-who's website, we'll know...

Hi again,
In the past 12 months or so, Steve has worked on 3 Nationals of mine and two of my bandmate's. All fantastic and careful work, and in good timescale too. He currently is working on my Silvertone electric, as the neck is banana'd, with no trussrod, neck continues through the body - so not simple job. Then he will work on another Kay dreadnought (Elmore version) I found on ebay last year.
Snap up that Duolian and send it to Steve, if you bought it. I was sorely tempted myself, but, too many other things in the way !!

Can I just make a plea for people to use a little flexibility when checking dates - particularly with the serial number lists as Bob Brozman and I devised them.
In this case ('0' series Duolians) we know when the models were introduced (Aug 1931) and the earliest we have so far is 0509. The next hard evidence we have for a date is when the f holes changed to rolled. We know this was Sept 1934. The earliest of these we have recorded is 06547..... .....so, using some logic, we know that roughly 6500 were made from late 1931 to Sept. 1934. Just because the only date in the list is 1931 and the next date was Sept 1934 does not mean they were ALL MADE IN 1931! I can't say which number was the changeover for 1932 and 1933 because it is not recorded. The layout of the list is for you to make assumptions of the rough date of your instrument using these approximate markers.
Guessing from this that there were roughly 2200 made per year, my guess would be that this instrument in question would fall somewhere close to the end of 1932. Get it? Best Mark

Thanks Mark, that's great information! Goes right along with what I was thinking as well.

Got it for $2200 USD. SCORE! Needs a neck reset to be freezable past the 7th, but it's all original and super clean. It's Duco finish is about 90+% intact!
