I've got some gigs coming up where I'd like to use my resonator (sitting down), mic'd up with an SM57. I've been looking around for a compact mic stand that's a good size for this. I like Hercules stuff as it's fairly good and compact but I can't find anything that will be about right sizewise. Most look to be too small or too big. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good stand? I don't sing, so it's just for use with the guitar. Cheers.

Hi Kristo,
Just get a regular size boom stand. You're right that the small ones are too small, but the regular size stands are fine.
Also, if you want to shorten the metal tubes on a full size stand, just cut them with a little hacksaw. You can pull off the plastic sleeves and cut the tubes to any size.

I hadn't thought about cutting the excess tubes; nice tip.

Kristo, if you get a matt black stand, then you don't have to cut through any chrome plating. It's easy, the steel tubing is very soft. I have one that I take to small pub gigs - I took 6 inches off the height and and probably 12 inches off the crossbar so it doesn't stick out into the room and get knocked.

I think the small boom holder on a lot of mic stands unscrews, and the mic holder can screw directly on top of the main boom, Mine does anyhoo. TT
