LAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI JUKES is Robert Mugge's 86-minute film about the juke joint tradition in Mississippi, with special emphasis on Jackson, Mississippi's Subway Lounge; Clarksdale, Mississippi's Ground Zero Blues Club; and Jackson, Mississippi's Summers Hotel, one of the city's first black-owned hotels and the home of the Subway Lounge. Performers include Alvin Youngblood Hart, Bobby Rush, Chris Thomas King, Vasti Jackson, Patrice Moncell, J.T. Watkins, Levon Lindsey, Abdul Rasheed, Dennis Fountain, Pat Brown, Eddie Cotton, Greg "Fingers" Taylor, Lucille, David Hughes, Steve Cheseborough, the King Edwards Blues Band, the House Rockers, and Casey Phillips and the Hounds. Interviewees include Subway Lounge owner Jimmy King, Ground Zero owners Morgan Freeman and Bill Luckett, and blues photographer and historian Dick Waterman. The film was commissioned in 2002 by Starz Entertainment Group.

Great video, though I guess Ground Zero is really one of the First of a new generation of Jukes, rather than one of the Last.

It seems `better` run than most , (and much larger) though with the improved business sense (and economy of scale) some atmosphere is lost. Unlike most joints in the area you can be sure of seeing a band at the time it says outside, and get a meal, its a great place but maybe not `the real deal`?
