walking around the big Orlando Vintage guitar show. The were lots of Nationals and Dobros on hand and I played a dozen or so. Two were interesting enough for me to try and make a trade on (An all original, except no finish, Sears Duolian and an all original '31 Duolian with some sorta black burst duco finish and a hooks on cover plate), but no interest in my new, NRP Walnut burst Triolian. Cool seeing Sonny tho. He was fondling old Fenders when I saw him. If you've never heard his slide work on a vintage Duolian, have a listen…

Hi there !
Yes, his National does sound really nice but I don't like what he is playing.

Hey snake, I don't understand. You mean the song or the Duolian (at least I assume it's a Duolian)? Maybe you'll like this cut better….

Hi again !
No, it's his playing style I don't like. It's got that "honky" sound. I don't mean that in a racist way as I mean "non-authentic" - so I could find any guy/woman of any colour, race or creed to sound, to my ears, "honky".

Well, I find myself unsure what to think about 'authenticity' in this context, but I don't mind admitting that I'd not heard Mr Landreth on a vintage Duolian before and I liked it

I seem to recall he plays (now) without a pick, but this sounds (well, the first one ) as if he is playing with one. He is one of the `cleverest` slide players but both tracks hide his virtuosity. I find his playing very interesting but don`t have any CDs etc.
