Hi there !
Just got my National Duolian back from having some work done to the neck - what a difference !
I got the National on eBay last year for a good price.
Was to be chucked into a skip by the original owner, now in his 80's. His helper/next door neighbour thought it might be worth something !!
He hadn't played it for years (i know you see that sort of crap said on eBay all the time, but this one really had decades old rusty, unplayable strings on the guitar !)
Fretboard had shrunk and that helped to warp the neck.
Other than that, a very good condition 1935/6 National Duolian - almost all duco paint intact.
Got the top man in the UK to do the work. I must say that he is the best ! He has reset a neck on one National for me before AND made from scratch a new neck for another National for me - both excellent work.
The work on this guitar has brought the life back to the thing !!! With a warped neck, it had not enough angle over the bridge. The tone was not anywhere near as good as it should have been.
The fingerboard needed replaced, and Dave fitted one plus twin carbon fibre trussrods into the neck (non-adjustable - non-visible !).
Neck reset and nut and biscuit bridge setup.
Still has original cone.
Now I sound like Blind Boy Fuller on guitar !
Great job again Dave !! Thanks !!!
Anyone with an old unplayable National or without the tone it should have can get it all fixed, and not expensive. Well worth it, to get a fantastic National back. Brings back life to an old National.
