Hi, there's been lots of recommendations here (on the forum) in the past for Mike Savage aka ebay (uk) seller "guitarman*2007". He seems not to have been active on ebay of late - anyone know if he is still trading at all and,if so, where?
Thanks

Found this post on Stefan Grossman's woodshed...
"Posts: 34 Feb 20 14 8:53 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Assuming you're in the UK, try Mike Savage in Kings Lynn. 01553 768 372 He recently did a great job on a 1913 Regal Parlour for me. Also does lots of early Stella repairs and restoration."
Can't vouch for accuracy but a starter for 10 :-)

Funny,i was going to post the same question, after looking back at some old threads on here. Seeing his name come up.. Sent a message through Ebay three days ago today, but no answer.I think two days is the max time it takes for a reply on ebay.Could be away i guess.. I have no experience with "haydnwood" but his feedback comments and score look good.

Hi Bod,
It was my 1913 Regal Parlour that Mike repaired. Suggest you call him on the number quoted in the earlier post; he's a really nice bloke with a fantastic selection of vintage ladder braced guitars.
In fact I've never seen such a selection, he has several walls covered with the most incredible instruments. All of them priced incredibly low.
Regards Chris

Mike Savage update!
Just spoken to Mike on the phone so the number is correct. Perhaps he was out when you rang previously.
Regards,
Chris

Thanks Chris, that is great news, I look forward to speaking with him ... and it was your photos of those very guitar-laden walls that made him stick in my mind > these ones <

Spoke to Mike Savage this lunchtime, very friendly, very helpful and believes he can supply something suitable within my budget - he's going to send me some pictures...

Wow, I had no idea that there was this treasure trove so near where I live (13 miles from Kings Lynn). The last big music shop in the town closed down a couple of years ago (couldn't compete with the internet box shifters).
I have definately got to check this out. Thanks for the thread!
Slide on, Pat

Be good to know how he's operating if not on eBay. I'd like to keep an eye out for interesting stock!

I think that Mike Savage said he could put a few things on ebay as one way sharing info and pictures of a few instruments and setting up a purchase... I'll be contacting Mike Savage again sometime in the next few days and will mention that a few folk seem interested in seeing his stuff...

Well, it was more than a few days before I was in contact with Mike again but I finally made it up to his place yesterday, a 400 mile round trip so I spent a lot of the day on trains but it was well worth it. In short, he made me very welcome, gave me his assessment of each of the instruments I was looking at and issued tea while I tried some of them out, including a couple of OS Stellas, a Lyon and Healy (Arion) and a number of Supertone parlours and a Monterey archtop. Educational and fun! As you might expect, the aesthetic condition of the instruments was quite varied, but all the ones I tried were good players (this seemed to be a theme in Mike's approach, 'I sell players'). I came away with a stained birch Supertone (complete with Hawaiian scenes and checkerboard trim), with which I'm fully delighted. To come back to simonf's point: Mike is operating via eBay (guitarman*2007). He has no current listings due to computer-type issues, but a search for his completed listings will reveal what he has had on offer of late. He tells me - and says in his listings that phone is the best way to get in touch: 07901 727557.

I'm no great shakes with a camera, but here's a few basic pics of my new (old) Supertone: I'm still getting to know it at the moment, but who knows I might get round to doing an audio file at some point. In the meantime, here is an old and brief clip of Mike Savage playing his own Hawaiian-themed Supertone:

Sounds like you had quite a day..That SuperTone looks good.Ive played the same model.Although that one had a more straight gain birch top.Hawaiian Lady (Yours looks Curly)Was a sweet sounding git..Interesting you picked it out over the OS stella's.

...Interesting you picked it out over the OS stella's. Well, now that you put it that way, yes, I suppose that I did, and that it is... but these two Stellas were not picked for very different reasons. One had obviously had a very hard life and though it played well enough, was nothing to write home about. (If this had been the only one available to play, I'd have been thinking 'yeah, it's ok - but I don't see what all the fuss is about...'). The other was lovely (I could see why people rate them), a little larger, and rather more than my available budget - if I picked that one, I'd need to go home and sell guitar stuff to raise the money. Part of the reason I played it was to see if 'it spoke to me' enough to make me want to do that, what ended that experiment pretty quickly was the mismatch between my lumpy hands and the very full and round ('C-shape?) neck, for me a definite 'V' is much more accommodating. Plus, the one I brought home did everything I was looking for (and nicely too), has a few scars but looks pretty good, and left me with a chunk of change - been a fool not to!
