Desperately hoping to - just got to get the pesky day job back in its box first. Then I can get back to the real world of playing my National.

Richard, No escape, not even from Mrs.Blueshome who will be there for the vocal classes. I do not forsee any style cramping however, so be ready to boogie!

Hi Fitchmeister,
Blues Week has been going now for 6 years and each year we all get better at both running the event and participating as students. The first year we had 20 or so students and this year I believe we have 90. But we also have taken on more teachers and helpers to keep the whole thing running smoothly (well almost smoothly).
You have no need to worry or be scared about your skills, the lessons, the gigs, or the jam sessions. The whole thing is very relaxed and great fun. So don't worry, just enjoy!
If you have any more questions about Blues Week, it's fine to leave them on this forum. I will ask the EBA secretary to check in to this thread occasionally.
Shine On, Michael.

Hi fitchmeister, Don't worry every one is very friendly. As a beginner participant I found very quickly that you have to pace yourself. The first year I went (2001) I attended every class for 3 days solid; and was all set to go home as it was all too much. Someone else told me that they had felt the same the year before & realised they had to have some free time. Anyway I stayed and enjoyed it more. The next year I just attended slide classes which meant I had half the time free to practice and/or go over stuff with one of the teachers. Also, it's nice just to sit in some of the other classes - I sat in John Jacksons class and watched and listened, and y'know that was just magic. But the classes are only a small part of the story - there's the jamming after the bar closes! (a tip - get plently of sleep BEFORE you come to bluesweek, some of the guys don't seem to need any). Other than that, come and get ready to enjoy yourself with a great bunch of people. ;D

Cheers for the replies & advice, So how does the week go? I got the list of all the instructors and classes, so do you elect a course and then go to those lessons for the week? I think this is what Charlie is getting at - don't try to do all of it. Am chuffed to be on a course where i have two of the instructor's CDs at home. Learning, Beer, Jamming and Gigs - sounds perfect. My girlfriend says i play better slide when i am cheesed off and a bit 'aggy' - so maybe no sleep and a hangover will improve my playing? ;D ;D

Unless things have changed (!), there are usually 2 x one and a quarter hour sessions in the morning & the same in the afternoon. For say beginner/intermediate guitar the first session may be fingerstyle & the second slide & the same way round in the afternoon. But running at the same time there may also be a slide/fingerstyle advanced or masterclass. If you're up for it (and more of a player than me) you can attend four classes a day doing slide and fingerstyle. But there may be something else going on you may want to attend (eg vocal or harp) thus missing a class. Or you may request a 1:1/small group with one of the teachers. Maybe the EBA will post a timetable early? Bottom line - there's a lot you can do, but choices have to be made to fit in what you want to do. On the Sunday afternoon the teachers usually say what they plan to do, so you can choose round that.

To anyone out there who may be feeling nervous about coming to blues week, DON'T BE. It is one of the friendliest, easy going events that you could attend. Appart from from the expert tuition you will meet other blues nuts and no matter what your playing standard is you can "jam till you drop". See you all there

Strange you should ask that as I had heard some folks had received some info but I had not and the orginal letter said the stuff would be sent out on 4 July. However, after an email to the EBA I am now told my goodies are in the post - so, maybe a little reminder would not go amiss..
