Your guitar was built by Regal in Chicago. At this point they were building all of the Dobros, whether they were Dobro or Regal brand. Fiddle-edges were only built for about one year at Dobro in California. Those all have a slotted headstock.
Nice mass of woodwork inside that beast. And it isn't light weight basswood either. It adds some mass and weight. I just wish they left the cardboard out.
A lot of fiddle-edges have two holes in the butt end. I think i've seen that one some Nationals too. Sometimes what you have, one hole drilled into the other, happens. One hole is drilled to hang the body for finishing. I don't know if they used a template for the placement. The hole for the tailpiece was drilled later during setup to fine tune the alignment of the strings. They don't always get that in the right place, too. I think a lot of work done at Regal was based on the "close enough for government work" principle. They were cranking out a lot of guitars.
TKL cases are good. Just check the fit like Snakehips suggested.

The case fits OK but I am not sure... the headstock end of the compartment is a by too close to the headstock and there is not a tonne of support at the heel end of the body. The fretboard and everything clears the top. I am possibly overanalyzing things on account of my compulsiveness, so its a coin toss. Its frustrating because it seemed to be a decent fit at the store and it doesn't clunk around. Its snug. The more I overanalyze something the less confident I become in it.
