Hi there !
I was surprised / saddened to hear that Don Young hasn't been at National Resophonic since about November 2013, due to some ill health. Apparently he is unlikely to be returning to National Resophonic. I wish Don all the best of health.
So that makes both founding members now out of the company envolvment, unless I'm mistaken. Many apologies if I have got this all wrong.

This is very sad. Here's wishing Don well and hoping that the company don't lose their way without his hand at the tiller. When I bought my NRP I sent the company an e-mail thanking them for making such a marvellous product and got a reply from Don himself. gsgarrymsmith.wix.com/theslideguy

A shame for sure ~ I spoke to Don on the phone a few times regarding NRP carrying a few bottlenecks - his slow, relaxed drawl and greeting of 'Howdy Ian' reminded me of the old Western films.... Slide On! Ian.

Just thought I would post a comment here. Don has been home dealing with health issues since the beginning of the year. He was not at 2014 NAMM Show (in January), and has not been spending much time in the shop (if at all). I personally wish him well and a speedy recovery. I missed seeing his smiling face and his kind and wonderful wife Hilary at the show. They have always made me feel welcome.
As far as NRP goes, they are not rudderless without Don's presence. I have been working with them since around 1996 creating graphic and advertising materials. One such project was working with McGregor to create that very cool playing-card style catalog. My association evolved into producing the frosted duco finishes on the Duco Delphis and now the Dueco Models. When McGregor left 6 years ago, Eric Smith, a long time employee, (23 years to date), became a 50% partner in the company. For the most part, since then, he has been running the company along with Jason and the crew. Eric is the one responsible for many of the things you now enjoy in new National guitars. Formed backs, lighter gauge steel, German Silver bodies, Black Rust finishes, the list goes on. He is the guy I have dealt with since Mac's depature and he, along with Don, have encouraged me to keep on the quest for crystal perfection. Eric (and Jason) are true National guys. They make the modern National Resophonic guitars possible, and have been doing so for quite awhile. So whether Don returns or not, NRP will not drift into the darkness.
So, my best goes out to Don. I consider him a friend and a mentor. I hope you all join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

Following several email communications, Don gave me and my son a personal tour of the facility in 2011. It was as if we were old friends. A great person. I wish him the best.

Wish Don Young a speedy recovery. Wonder who is spinning the NRP cones in his absence?

When I visited NRP in June 2011, Don introduced me to a man who was spinning the cones. Don said that the man, whose name I don't remember, was one of the few, if only one that had the touch to make those cones, and the cones were a key ingredient in the success of NRP. I will post some of my pix from the visit sometime soon. Again, I wish Don the best.

Really sad to read this about the health issues Don Young is dealing with. Seems like a great guy. A couple of years I bought a National Triolan from Lenny Gerthoffer. He had to pick up a new one from the National factory. I asked Lenny if he would take a picture of the guitar with him and Don Young. He did! Here are the pictures:

Good news. The look on Lenny's face in the top picture - needs a caption... "Hey Don, you wanna buy this swell guitar?" "Its mine, Lenny". TT
