Hi there !
Just thought I'd post a pic of mine, as I've just got the electric guitar on the left.
Both guitar models played by Elmore James - and both guitars are VERY rare.
Silvertone 1341 electric - only produced from spring to summer of 1954. The neck goes right on through the body as part of the body.
Kay dreadnought acoustic (not sure about date - late 1940's to mid 1950's) - added Dearmond Rhythm Chief Model 1000 pickup.

Very good. Can you impress us even more with a pic of Elmore James playing them? Cheers TT

Nice - but isn't that usually held to be a 1361? ('Silvertone 1341' seems to be an amp model, > like this< )

OK. We probably have some of the biggest Elmore fans tuned into this thread... So let us solve one of the greatest blues lyric mysteries...what does he mean when he sings "I ain't seen my baby since 1839" in 1839 blues? (and it's Ike Turner playing lead right?)
I don't think it's 24 hour time...

Hi again ! The Kay WAS a work of art AFTER it was returned from major repairs at a fantastic luthier, Celine Camerlynck, from London : www.luthierscorner.co.uk/Luthiers_Corner_Home.htmlI bought the Kay acoustic on ebay about 8 yrs ago. It came from a seller in Chicago. The ebay pictures showed the action was very high so I knew the guitar would need a neck reset. When I received the guitar, I took off the 4 badly rusted strings, with a new set eagerly awaiting, held between my teeth. As I snipped the last old string off, the guitar neck fell off !!! Oh dear !! Perhaps not a bad thing, as it would mean the luthier wouldn't have a difficult time trying to steam the neck off ! So I sent it to Celine for restoration. There was a crack in the guitar top along the bass side of the fretboard extension - all repaired solid. The bridge plate (inside and under the bridge) had perished. The whole bridge had shrunk and was curling up at the edges. New Ebony bridge, and bridge plate were fitted. Neck reset. Kay guitars tend to have really narrow string spacing on an otherwise "normal" neck width. This is because the 1st and 6th strings are positioned quite far in from the edge of the neck. This was Kay's idea of an easy to play set-up. The sides of the fretboard are heavy rolled in (curved) and so the frets only start quite far in from the side - and the fret-ends are fairly bevelled - so that the actual available flat playing surface of the frets is much narrower than the width of the neck. The string spacing was far too narrow for me, being used to Gibson and National type string spacing. At my request, Celine sanded the fretboard down a little into a radiused board, until the whole fretboard width was usuable, allowing a refret to use the whole width and thus allowing much better/wider string spacing. This Kay guitar is not the usual cheap rubbish that we mostly see with Kay guitars. This was an earlier Deluxe model. It had the Kanti-lever truss-rod system (adjusted through the hole in the neck heel), pearl inlaid headstock and fancy/expensive Kluson Super tuners (aka Kluson Waffleback tuners). I have replaced the tuners with new replacement Kluson Waffleback tuners - mainly because one of the original tuner button posts was badly bent (they worked well otherwise). The guitar now plays like a dream and stays in tune really well. Celine turned this guitar into something way better than when it was brand new. The Silvertone is a cool looking guitar. Really light too. Have only just got it and not had a chance to give it a blast with an amp up loud yet. Perhaps later tody !

Is there any possibility you could do a youtube or sound cloud so we could hear this old jewel.
Thanks

Hi again !
Yes, I'm planning to do a youtube video of the Silvertone electric really soon. I gigged with it last saturday and it was great in Open D. Needs a little set-up TLC - setting the bridge slots better and/or some fret levelling, as it was bottoming-out on the middle strings too easily.
I've already got quite a few videos of me playing the Kay acoustic, including my very first/earliest video (on a different Kay acoustic) that compares the sound of the Dearmond Rhythm Chief pickup to the Dearmond soundhole pickup (that is more visible on the colour photos of Elmore, from an October 1959 gig). I think the video clearly shows that the soundhole pickup does NOT give the Elmore tone/sustain/attack.
My youtube user name is : snakehips81

My main non resonator slide guitar is a little Washburn parlour. It's all solid wood and just has the most amazingly dirty, raw, bluesy tone. I tried loads of parlours when searching for this one and the rest had a much more modern sound, but this just has that old timey, woody sound that I was looking for. Here's a video I've just put up on YouTube. Hope you like it:
