lotsa info about these most commonly used pre-amp tubes/valves for modern/current design guitar amplifiers. NOTHING UNIQUE THERE. many different sources along same lines on the web. but in my experience, most of these fall into 3 catagories: 1--number crunchers. great stuff for an amp designer/repairman's interest, but use electronic rating units that technophobes find quite daunting to understand, and ~very~ involved to learn exactly what it is that's being measured. 2--tonal characteristics. great info for those only interested in the end product, how they will affect the amp's sound qualities. 3--salesman brochures. very little in actual data beyond a vague "gain" reference, and tonal variation byproducts. this could have been the best case approach for marketing to the mythical "average" consumer. sadly, the information usually becomes nearly useless due to the fact the business sells many flavors, from many mfgrs. as such they tend to rate the tubes in a "good, better or best" format, for what should be obvious reasons. at the link below, find all of the above. tech specs, tonal artifacts, explanations about the units of measurement AND how these will interact with each other to vary output qualities of the tubes/valves. ratings/specs for new production and NOS. an ongoing project, so be sure to check the data entry time frame when comparing newly mfgd product: www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com/12ax7.htmlmitchfit

Thank you for the link mitchfit, a very interesting read and very easy to understand. There is also a link at the bottom of the page to a forum with a lengthy thread. I this thread he answers all sorts of questions, which is also a great read. This has helped me no end in understanding how things interact and work in valve amps, very useful. Cheers. forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/1351234/5Mike
