...only to be scared off by the reality of increased collector interest driving up vintage model pricing dramatically of late?
those who are in my "chronologically challenged" age group can remember back when even the vastly more complex multi-pedal and/or double neck offerings with Q.D. legs and OEM cases were routinely sold for prices that are less than current 6 string single neck, non-pedal "brand name" models w/single PUP. same are often without OHSC.
in a recent excavation below the great pyramid, i found an old hard-copy Gruhn Guitars catalog [31 page pamphlet], circa december 1996. [from the mesozoic/pre-digital era] for those who are not familiar with this company, usually the closest to unaltered among current product availability vintage instruments, or the shortcomings are well described. as such, priced to reflect that reputation.
listed therein:
Fender model 2000 pedal steel, mid 1960's production. rated-VG+. has 2 10 string
necks, 11 pedals. sunburst finish. replacement PU on one neck. OHC--$675
Rickenbacker Electro double neck model. early 1940's. rated-EXF, 2 8 string
Bakelite necks, metal body. OHC--$625
Supro, made by Valco/National, 1948. rated-EXC. body covered by gray pearloid,
OSC--$175
getting back on subject--if you would like to learn lap steel, but you can't afford tuition costs, see below:

no affiliation with company. no experience with guitar...not an endorsement.
but given the pry bar simplicity of the design, one could easily upgrade ANY of the components to suit their needs with just basic soldering skills., and the ability to choose/use the correct screwdriver. yet still come in well below current vintage pricing. [which may also need repair/upgrade to suit your needs].

PS- many other listings in the above catalog, solid body electrics, HB electrics, acoustic, reso, banjo, mandolins, tenor/plectrum, bass, ukes, violins.
i can search this 18 year old database for your specific models and pricing if you are interested for comparison.
[that may/not be listed].
