I have purchased a Parlour Type guitar and was wondering if it would be okay to fit Newtone strings on a normal acoustic as they are really meant for resonators. Also any suggestions for a type of lighter gauge strings that can be used for acoustic (not resonator) slide playing. many thanks in advance.

I don't know about newtones on a parlour for slide.
I am real happy with martin marquis phosphor bronze on my ladder braced parlors - they are sears catalogue types from the 40's-60's -stella, silvertone, kay, etc. I use light, extra light and a custom set depending on the machine.

I love Newtone strings on my wooden guitars. Try Masterclass 11 to 52. They sound a bit metallic for a short while but settle down really well.
If you clean them after you've and keep the guitar in a case they last for ages.

I use Newtones on my pre-war parlours, (12-52's) - nothing sounds as good, and I've tried plenty of others over the years. They last well and have a slightly softer action than hex-cored strings.

Hope the newtone users don't mind my asking - pb bronze, 80/20 or nickel on the parlors?

pb, nickel on the triplate though. Still to try nickel on the parlours but have a set around to try.

Looks awesome - you sounded just great on the resonator. Good luck!

If the guitar is a genuine parlor-very small.Or a pre war parlor I would not play on too heavy a gauge.I have several pre war parlor and i use Newtone heritage string 11 guage. They have low tension and are kind to old guitars. They are great sounding on my old stella and regal. eggy

Hi, I think that the man who made it was Mike Savage in Kings Lynn & if so he really does know what he is doing with these old ladder braced guitars
