Edit, sorry, the title was abridged by Proboards.. should have ended "or is it?" and of course, I was referring to the "neck stick" I found this on another Proboards forum. Riversong guitars. riversongguitars.com/ Here's the ubiquitous YouTube clip; There seems to be a little re-invention of the wheel going on, but at the same time, the application of the idea has numerous perceived advantages. I do wonder what all of that mechanical gubbins will actually do to the tone. I'd need to play one, especially at those prices. riversongguitars.com/

It's hardly a new take...as well as resonator guitars, it's just what banjo makers have been doing for hundreds of years..not to mention cigar box guitar builders..and Mario Maccaferri with his plastic Mac with a neckstick. As for the tone?...well, banjo, cigar box and plastic guitars tells you what sort of heritage it's got...so unless they can do something totally radical with the top bracing...it's got a lot of competition. Neat idea..but really, once you've set-up your guitar, you're not going to tinker with the action every 5 minutes. It a fairly complex solution to a problem which doesn't actually exist, but the art lies in the salemanship of convincing guitarists they have a problem, and NEED this to fix it. That little twist of being able to adjust the intonation as well is a neat bonus...but it it was built right in the first place it wouldn't be needed, and of course people like to tinker in search of the unobtainable ultimate....

Exactly my train of thought. But at the same time, I understood that intonation was partly reliant upon string gauges, hence the reasoning that it would need to be reset if different gauge strings were fitted. This is of course a real sledgehammer approach to that perceived problem, but how much easier to reset the action and intonation it would be (on those rare occasions) Also, it leaves a soundboard free of interference from braces, bridge and neck joint. It also reduces the degree of kerfing necessary for strength. I think that these factors are worthy of consideration beyond outright dismissal. However, none of this appeals to me, even allowing for that much disposable cash (which would be spent on something else......)
