I've got an old '30s wooden bodied Dobro (not entirely original) that needs resetting-up.
Action needs raising slightly. Can anyone recommend someone that they've used.
Cheers

Hi there !
Dave King had a workshop in London, in Denmark Street - and was my first choice in luthier work on morehan 6 National resonator guitars - one of which he built a new neck for. Neck resets, refrets, new fretboards, carbon fibre neck "truss rods" in a few, set ups with new cones etc. He worked on a wooden National Trojan and has also worked on two wooden National Triolians of my bandmate.
He worked in his London Denmark Street workshop, with another luthier, Celine Camerlynck. Celinestill runs the workshop, as far as I am aware. She has done incredible work on two guitars I own ( a 1940's Gibson L50 archtop acoustic, and an early 1950's Kay dreadnought, the Elmore James model). She has also done amzing work on one or two of my bandmate's vintage parlour guitars. Not sure if she dables about with resonator guitars BUT knows her way around them, as she diagnosed neck problems on one National Duolian I had brought in for Dave King to work on.
Two people I would highly recommend. Dave King is worth the train journey, take your guitar to him (although I believe he may be chocka busy, as he is in much demand)

If you're in the south / west of London try Malcolm Miles in New Malden 020 - 8942-1965. I haven't used him for a few years because I moved out of London so I'm not positive he's still working, but when I lived there he did all my stuff and was the best guy I have ever come across for doing setups and refins, bar none...and all from his garden shed! He worked for a lot of top players and was extremely reasonable on cost and always generous with his time and experience.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but for those recommending Celine Camerlynck: what's the average wait time for having work done?

Hi again !
Ha ha !!
Luthiers can take forever. They are a law unto themselves. Mark my words though, her work is astounding. I do virtually all my duo/trio gigs with the two guitars she restored (as well as some vintage Nationals and an e.piano !) - and that was about maybe 10yrs ago now - and they are still solid, excellent at staying in tune and I know they will last me out. Not bad for a 1940's Gibson L50 archtop and a 1950's Kay dreadnought !!

If you get near Ipswich try Con Rendal, he has done work on three Vintage Resos for me and I am very pleased with ail of them.On small jobs he has a quick turnaround.Off late he has brought back to life a basket case Gibson L00 from the 30's(that was not a quick job) ,Its now in the hands of Marshcat & he is well pleased with it. His number is 07791770047.

Yes Con would cover North London essex, He is a lovely Guy & as Chris said did a great job with a new bridge on the L00 (a 32 Penguin).
Con did some good work on the Dobros for Chris, I would recommend him, Dave King to the West & Steve Evans if you are based in the North.
Not expensive and has years of experience, and & has a great workshop in an ex blacksmiths forge.
