Dear Mike ,
35 years ago I bought me a brand new Dobro for my 30th .
Despite the fact that statin drugs have smashed my hands in the interim I reckon I might get away playing lap steel and as I'm 65 in June I rather fancy getting a proper one to mark an end of formally working.
Questions i) Are you going to bring out a copy ? ii) If not where do I go to get a decent real old thing? iii) (With extra money ) can I con you into giving me a sensible lesson or two during next Bluesweek ?
Merry Xmas 'Old Mother Blues !'

Hi Steve,
What type of Dobro was it - metal, wood, square neck, round neck?
With this information I can answer questions 1 and 2.
I would be happy to give you a lap steel lesson at Blues Week. We do not charge extra for this, just arrange it with me on the first day.
(Because this is a commercial thread about MM guitars and Blues Week, after I know you have read my reply I will move it into the Main Street section of the forum)
Best wishes,
Shine On Michael

Dear Mike ,
The large , loud bell metal late 70's- roundneck - and I ain't looking to off it !
The one that Joe Filisko borrows for harp class accompaniment.
What I'm after is the real thing as played on film I've seen of BK Black Ace Turner - for no logical reason ! But one with a big metal hollow neck - perhaps I need a guitar that mirrors my capacity for hard drink as it were !
And if that's the case I shall come and bother you next Bluesweek for a proper insight into lap steel as it should be played
Happy New Year

Hi Steve,
I am not asking so I can make you an offer, just so I know that we are both on the same page. Your Dobro is an Original Musical Instruments (OMI) brass bodied model 33 guitar with a 10.5 inch biscuit bridge cone. Bell Brass is a term they invented for advertising, it is just ordinary brass.
The Black Ace guitar you are asking about is a 1920s or 30s square-neck National Tricone. You can find these at vintage guitar dealers and on eBay. The plain non engraved style 1 square-neck National Tricones are always around and are beautiful guitars.
Nothing else sounds like an original square-neck National Tricone, so if you really want the Black Ace sound, you need one of these.
Best wishes,
Shine On Michael.

If not can I have an invite to your party?
Thanks, Bob.

Hi Bob, I am happy to have a scheduled lap steel session at Blues Week, I will talk with Michael Roach about it. Perhaps we should continue this on a new thread about Blues Week. I hope all is well with you. Happy New Year Shine On Michael.
