Hi Chris,
Dave is correct - The Newtone Aloha strings were designed by me and (Malcom Newton) Newtone to be safe on fragile Hawaiian guitars, such as Weissenborns, Konas, and at the time of design...Superiors. The strings are made to be tuned in any tuning, including high bass G (GBDGBD), without putting stress on the instrument. They are gauged the same as MM Nationals - 15/56, but the cores are very light and the windings quite thick, so they stretch up to pitch with a full tone, at very low tension.
The blurb on the Newtone website about 'slack tunings' is incorrect. I must speak to Malcolm and get that information changed.
(This is not a commercial advertising thread, as I have no business connection with Aloha Strings. I designed the strings and the package for Newtone, and that is my only involvement with this product).
Shine On Michael
