Hi, some friends and I were talking in the pub the otjher day& found that we had all done some bad or odd gigs in the past (me more than most after nearly 40 years of playing in front of people) It made for a funny & enjoyable evening & I wondered if any one here had any they would like to share.

My most memorable one was in 1989 playing with a covers band, the 'slick richards' at the Bristol Bridge. Part of our set was to do some diana ross songs, and we dressed up the part too (no blacking up mind). After pushing over the PA speakers and mikes, some yobs then took exception, and were baying "f*ck off" incessantly at us. The final DR song was me singing 'please don't wait for me', where I usually interact with the audience. I decided to seranade the biggest yob, and instead of killing me, he said 'you're alright mate', and then proceded to beat some punters up at the back. Great times. TT

Here is one of my strangest.I was sitting at home minding my own business when the phone rang & a voice said will you play at a humanist funeral. We want you to play one song & we will pay you £200. I said yes & was then told that I should drees in the loudest cloths I had& that the song I was to learn for the funeral was an old musichall song called the galloping Major(as the deceased had fallen off his hore & broken his neck & it would have appealed to his sense of humor. When I got to the crematorium dressed in a strypy blazer micky mouse waistcoat & pink shirt & greenand yellow painted shoesi waited outside for the funeral party only to discover that they were running late & instead of waiting with a lot of brightley dressed humanists I was surrounded by some irate people in full mourning who I didnt know form Adam. WHOOPS!!!

Spent several years playing slide & rythym guitar in a rock covers band specialising in AC/DC, Bryan Adams, early Rod Stewart....that sort of stuff. We were booked to play at a working mens club in Brum, so turned up early, set up & soundchecked, then off for a Balti.... ....Arrived back at the gig to find it packed with around 150 O.A.P's ~ the youngest was 66! So ~ we fired-up with 'Summer Of 69', followed by 'Highway To Hell'. The organiser wandered to the stage shaking his head & came up to speak with us. "Don't you know any RYAN Adams?" he asked - "We're all Country & Western music lovers & the booking agent suggested you blokes ~ 'cos you play a lot of Ryan Adams!" When we politely explained we were a rock covers band & the booking agent had obviously booked the wrong type of band, he whispered something to our vocalist ~ he in turn said "Okay lads - pack up, we're outta here". When we packed the gear away after only two numbers, I enquired what the old guy had whispered in his ear. Our vocalist said "Well - he asked me how much we were being paid & I said £200.00 ~ his reply was.....I'll pay you £150.00 right now to pack up & f**k off!!!" Great times!! Ian.

Years ago I got a gig at a new blues club. I was one of regulars when they first opened. It didn't pay much but they would feed the band and didn't charge us for drinks so it was OK. What I didn't know about the place was this it was the "trouble" bar in the area before the current owners bought it.
We were playing there one night and some bikers came in. I've played in front of a lot of bikers in the past and enjoy it in part because they will usually make sure that there isn't any trouble. There was one biker guy who kept asking to come up and sing a song. After a bit I let him come up. While he was singing with us I noticed some police officers coming into the club. The officers walked to the side of the stage, came on stage pulled a huge knife away from the singer (I hadn't noticed the knife) slapped some hand cuffs on him and dragged him away. We finished the song and moved on. As the cops were grabbing him I recall him looking at me. All I did was take the microphone from him and stick it back in the mic stand. It could have gotten a lot uglier. We were fortunate.
