Hi Gaucho Sorry to avoid the question, but how do you think the action would be with a very low nut and a medium (a bit higher) saddle? Both definitely need doing, and without seeing it, its possible that the action may then be playable, if not ideal. A low nut could make a massive difference. TT

I'm shaping a lower nut out of bone now. I don't think it'll have any effect on the string height at the cover plate tho. I think it's a neck angle problem. I don't want to replace the saddle if it's original and I'm pretty sure it is. The action now is playable (even with some fretting), but the string height at the bridge is too low to play right on top of it. It's fine if you play at the seam where the cover plate joins the body.
