Hi All
I am currently searching for a decent acoustic pickup for my Recording King ROS 626. I know in the past i have seen a couple of people praising Sunrise Pickups but they are made with a very limited stock and it seems i am already too late this year to be able to get hold of one.
Could any one recommend anything else? It does not necessarily need to be a soundhole pickup, i will take it to a proper luthier anyway so its ok if its not as simple to install.
I was looking at paying upto £200 for the sunrise, so anything up to that mark would be fine, although obviously, the lower the cost, the better!!
Thanks!!
Warm Regards Dave

Hi Dave, after many weeks of trying to decide I have just fitted a Fishman rare earth humbucker to my Epiphone bluesmaster and am as pleased as punch with it.With a bit of EQ it sounds fine. What finally made up my mind was that I saw Eric Bibb on you tube playing Going down slow and his sound was just as I wanted.I checked his web site and saw that he was using the Fishman. Also it is dead easy to fit yourself using a 12mm tapered reamer to open up the endpin hole. Malc

I have an LR Baggs iBeam Active fitted to my Martin 000-28 and it produces a really good amplified tone: the best I've come across in 30+ years of trying to amplify acoustics (more or less, usually less!) successfully. (I much prefer to use a mic but there are situations where that isn't possible or convenient.) The iBeam is fitted under the bridge-plate - it's NOT an 'undersaddle' pick-up) so it senses the vibrations of the top as well as the strings. The only modifications needed were an endpin jack fitted and a battery holder velcro'd to the neck-block. It's within your budget too and easy to fit by an experienced luthier or technician.
Hope this helps.
Cheerily,
Gerry C

Hi Dave sorry I made a mistake in that Eric Bibb looks like he is using a Sunrise in Going Down Slow and a Fishman on Dont let nobody drag your spirit down, Malc

Hi, try an LR Baggs M1 (active), sounds great , picks up the vibrations of the top as well as picking up the string vibrations as it is a magnetic pick up. I love the sound of the fishman single coil pickups but find there can be some hum problems, the humbucker sounds a bit dull to me. The Baggs is a stacked humbucker with one coil picking up the sound and the other cutting out the hum. Hope this helps

I have an AER AK15 plus fitted to my ROS 626 it has piezo and internal mic with a volume and blend control. Sounds very good.
You can get them for £199.

Hi, the closest you can get (except for a microphone) is in my opinion the K&K pickups. I've tried "everything" and have K&K installed in my Martin D-18 and my J-50. And it's easy to install yourself. www.kksound.com/puremini.html

+ 1 on the Baggs M1A. Great sound! After many pickups I found the one for my acoustic. I would like to try a Baggs Anthem, but they are expensive.

Thank you very much everyone for your responses!! It sounds like there are certainly a lot of good options out there!!
I have some serious research to do!! Atleast i have a few starting points now though.
Im particually interested to see chris's suggestion as its on another ROS 626.
Thanks!! Dave

I had an LR Baggs M1 Active on my Taylor, and i don't know, I just didn't get on with it...sound engineers kept commenting that it sounded odd, or thin or something. To be totally honest I think that I might have had a dodgy one because they do have a generally great rep. Anyway, long story short, I replaced it with a Fishman single coil and I now have the opposite thing happening...sound engineers come up looking at the pickup/guitar commenting on how great it sounds...There are occasional minor hum issues, but nothing drastic. And it is a doddle to fit. Niall
