i've been playing slide guitar for the last 3 years, everyday i love it more, i began to apreciate more after seeing ry cooder playing in crossroads, also with John Lee Hooker, what a fantastic player he is. I've learned most by ear and with practice, i play a few hours everyday, ok i do it everytime i can! I've seen a Warren Haynes dvd (also a fantastic slide player), but he plays in standard tuning. Know after this years playing by ear i want to learn some more, i've watched Sonny Landreth, he does an amazing job playing notes behind the slide (minor and 7th) correct me if i'm mistaken. Does anyone knows good slide institutional dvd's focused in Open G/A or Open D/E tunings?

Michael's excellent DVD will provide a strong foundation for your slide playing. There are also very good instructional DVDs by Stefan Grossman ( guitarvideos.com/video/dvd/902dvd.htm ) and Bob Brozman ( www.homespuntapes.com/Instructors/bob-brozman/learn-to-play-bottleneck-blues-guitar-three-dvd-set ) which will give you a lot of good stuff to work on. (BTW, the Brozman set is also available as individual DVDs). The MOST IMPORTANT THING is to LISTEN to as much good slide playing as you can on record and play along with it: instruction is great but working things out for yourself is even better! Great slide players in the blues idiom are Tampa Red, Blind Willie Johnson, Son House, Booker White, Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell and Muddy Waters (especially the early Library of Congress recordings). Modern slide masters are Michael, John Hammond Jr, Ry Cooder, Martin Simpson, Sam Mitchell, Eddie Martin, Brookes Williams... and many more! All of them have CDs available from Amazon. Cheerily, Gerry C
