Last night was lucky enough to be present for a fabulous concert of Iraqi music at the Royal Albert Hall. Veteran singer and guitarist Ilham Al Madfrai and young ud player Khyam Allami could have kept going all night as far as I'm concerned. Would have been great on TV but unfortunately the BBC did not see fit to film it. Still, you can get the radio version on the iPlayer till next week. I urge you to check it out www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00t6vhr/BBC_Proms_2010_Prom_33_Ilham_Al_Madfai_and_Friends/

Thanks for that Stevie. What a great concert! Lucy Duran (the lady who introduced the concert) does a great radio show 'World Roots' every week, well worth hearing.
Shine On Michael.

you're welcome Michael, though it's actually Sam (aka LR) here lol. Stevie had just posted in the Republic thread! Anyway, yeah it was a great show, just one of those perfect nights that come together from time to time. It's worth pointing out that it came about as the result of a new BBC project to put up and coming musicians together with established artists from similar cultural backgrounds, called World Routes Academy. A great advert for the BBC and the Proms, and nice to see plenty of Iraqis in the crowd. Having said that, the audience itself was rather smaller than usual for a Prom (even at that time of night) though we made up for it with some noise!

I mis-read the thread 1st time and thought it said Iraqi Porn, which is probably as difficult to get hold of as the music ;D
