Hello, First time on this forum. I was inspired to join by the wealth of info in a thread a little while back. Does anyone here have a coodercaster with the lollar supro and teisco pickups? Any comments? A poster on another forum said the llollar supro sounded just like the originals, (I have one on a Supro lapsteel I don't want to cannibalise it,) but are more robust and don't feedback (?). Lollar also tell me they do a gold foil teisco pickup, but not as part of their regular range. Seemed a bit shy of telling me the cost though. Finally, has anyone built a cc using a different guitar thn a strat,? Any comments, thoughts, appreciated before I commit to the lollars. Thanks

Hi Bananafist, Welcome to our forum. I can answer part of your question: Here is a photo of my guitar. I don't go for the Coodercaster title as Supro pre-dated Ry's Strat with these pickups in regular electric guitars (Supro 60, Supro Ozark, Supro Tone Master) by thirty or more years. I have a hand-built semi-acoustic Telecaster with a 50s Supro pickup and a 90s Danelectro lipstick. I have used it on all my recordings since 2000. (Photo below) I have not tried the repro Lollar pickup, but I am sure it is good and it saves destroying an old lap steel, which is what I did to make mine. Shine On Michael.

Hi Michael and thankyou. I did see a Dave King 'tele' very like yours some years ago at a show which had the Supro pickup fitted. I take your point about Supro preceding the strat with these pickups.

Bananafist, I have a godin radiator which has been Valco,d now maybe that should be the term?
I stick to the Coodercaster name but in reality unless it is a tele or a strat then the caster bit falls away.
Mike is right Valco put these pickups out in regular guitars 30 odd years before Ry back fitted one to his strat, but that guitar has become so iconic that the term or homage when someone builds one has sort of stuck.
The lollar pickup is as good as the Supros in terms of reconstructing to the early concept and making the magnetic field stronger with two magnets against the top plate (a lot of the 50,s student models had one and a dummy) Feedback is no problem, I also have a 50,s Oahu Supro pickup with which I am going to upgrade the magnets with a set of Jason Lollars. Additionally I have a Dave King Tele with a 52 Rickenbacker instead of the Valco pickup and neither one is better, each a tone monster. If anyone wants to try out the Lollar pickup they can either come round to me (I am in Camberley Surrey) or I will take it to Dave Kings summer BBQ next month July 11th) The Lollar pickup by the time you pay shipping and duty comes in at around £250 a lot of money but worth it to save the little baby lap steels from the cull!. Regards Lee

Lee, thanks for the comments about the godin and the lollar pickup. Looks like I'll have to place an order.
