......if you have ever wondered why humans' relationship with music is so profound, this book by Daniel Levitin gives plenty of food for thought. Levitin is a professor of psychology and neuroscience, but also had a career as a successful record producer. He constructs a very readable account of why music is important to us. He combines strands of neuroscience, anthropology and evolution with his own personal experience to support his view that songs can be categorised in one of 6 basic typologies, and that each category fulfills a basic purpose. Interesting & thought provoking......the web link gives more info www.sixsongs.net/Paul (PS I am not linked in anyway to the author or the publisher)
