I am very sorry to inform everyone who was so looking forward to seeing Louisiana Red this month that he is ill and has returned home to hospital. We did four shows together and although Red wanted to continue, it became very clear to me by the fourth show that he was too ill to continue. I arranged for him to return home to Germany where he can get the care and treatment he needs for a full recovery. As you can imagine it was a stressful and emotional week for both of us. Many of the tour dates have been cancelled, but some are going ahead which I am now doing as 'Michael Messer & Ed Genis' shows. Please check with venues to find out which shows are still going ahead. I cannot give you a definitive list of what is happening as our booking agency is still negotiating with the venues. I do know that Wolverhampton, Liverpool, Coventry and Stamford are CANCELLEDCONFIRMED still going ahead - Stockon, Selby, London, Kendal, Fareham and Manchester. We are still waiting for confirmation of the Cardiff show. Please keep an eye on this thread for further details about the tour dates. I hope to see people at the shows and I wish Louisiana Red a speedy and full recovery. Shine On Michael.

That's really sad news, Michael: I was looking forward to seeing the show at Selby. Please convey my best wishes to Red for a full recovery and I'll look forward to seeing him in full flight when he next comes over to the UK.
You OK yourself after all the stress?

Thank you for your kind messages.
I am okay, but pretty shattered from the stress of being out on the road doing concerts with a 78 year old man who was not fit to be out doing anything, let alone 17 concerts. It was a sad & stressful week. Red is a dear friend and a master of the blues, it was so sad to see him unable to deliver.
I will pass your messages on to Red and his wife, Dora, and I will update this thread when I hear more news of his health.
Shine On Michael.

Sad news indeed. I wish Red a speedy recovery & hope to see him on the road again in the future. Glad to see that Selby is still on with Michael & Ed (the duo doesn't often get this far north!). In case anyone hasn't got it "Live at Painted Sky" is a solo Louisiana Red album and is WONDERFUL.

Best wishes and get well soon to Louisiana Red. Sad to hear we'll not being seeing him at Kendal on Friday but, given that we're not, it is good to see that you and Ed Genis will be playing there that night. .

Marc, you're next chance to see Michael & Louisianna Red in this area is 21st August at the Rhythm Festival, Twinwood nr Bedford. Looks like Michael is playing with the complete electric band ;D Instead of getting a refund from Stamford Arts for the cancelled gig, I'm exchanging my tickets for the Martin Harley Band gig on 18th June - same price, same venue.. Check out their version of Tom Wait's 'Chocolate Jesus' on their myspace player..
