adjusting the spider bridge and cone

Hi Michael!
I like to get the sound i had on my fender fr 50 before the guitar guy in Macedonia made the set up that ruined the sound. i know you do not like this guitar, but it gotta great sound after i unscrewed the screws that were put in in the factory. this is a guitar of a friend of mine and he did not know for about 7 years that the cone was attached to the body and did not know that it has not be like that. after it i put 16-59 strings and a higher action, then the sound was great. a weak ago, a lamp fell on the guitar and sudden the sound was not good anymore. then i went to this guitar service guy, but, in Macedonia there is not no one who knows about reso guitars anything, the biggest irony is that i am maby the one who knows the most, and compared to you guys, its nothing! and then the guy put some lower action, put the bridge a little or 10 degrees opener than it was and it was on 90 degrees to the neck. the saddle blank is selfmade from plastic and is round because as the guy said the neck has a slight radius and is round and it has to be also a little round.is it so? everywhere i saw there was a flat saddle blank. and the main thing, when i made the setup i screwed the screw in the bridge almost till the end and it sounded great, but now he unscrewed it and said i think that it has to be not so tight because it has to vibrate, the spider!! i dont know what to do...what is the most important thing i have to take care of? excuse me for my bad english and for the long letter, but i am really i kind of desperate because here is no one who can help.

Hi Alex,

I understand your problem and will do all I can to help you.

I think you should start with some good components. Get a piece of maple and make a bridge saddle. Then make sure your spider-legs are all level. Do this by putting it on a flat surface, a table, and with sandpaper make all the spider-legs touch the table. When you screw the spider to the cone be careful not to make the screw too tight. It should be just tight enough so the cone does not buzz. I do not know what else to suggest. Let me know how you get on.
