Hey guys, Could I replace the coverplate on 'your' guitars with a stock National one. I like to remove the cover from the saddle to mpalm mute the strings?

Hi Alisterhrae,
The coverplate from a National Reso-Phonic guitar will not fit on our guitars.
Players of National guitars have been palm-muting with the hand-rests on for over 80 years. Why would you want to remove it? Once it is off it is only a matter of time until your cone gets crushed.
Shine On Michael.

Its nice to have the option of muting or not by either resting the heel of your hand on the strap or muting just in front of it. Personally I think Resos look 'wrong' with the strap removed.

Hi guys, thanks for the info. This may be 'a bad habit' I have got into. I prefer playing with the strap off! This M2, although needing some tlc on the action has so far survived many gigs?
It would need a pretty direct hit to damage the cone? Or am I being reckless?
I guess this would mean I could not use a National Hotplate either? I use one on my National M2.
Many thanks. Alister

I spoke to Mike Dowling about this a few years ago. He said he'd never damaged the cone while playing. He did mention baggage handlers crushing the cone (I think with the strap on!).
