Hi All, I've just spent a bit of time trawling youtube and found this. I've never heard of John Campbell before but will be looking out for some more

John was a great musician and a very interesting writer. I saw him play and met him in London at the Mean Fiddler back in the early 90s sometime. A nice man and a great player. I have his 'One Believer' album which has some very good material on it. Sadly John died in I think 94/95.
The Lightning Hopkins story is wonderful, but how much truth is in it we will never know.
Stevie Ray Vaughan claimed that his National was Blind Boy Fuller's.
When I first got a vintage National I used to look at all the old photos of bluesmen and see if I could spot my guitar. Occasionally when I was wearing those special rose-tinted glasses I could see it.
Shine On Michael.

You're right there Bob, it has a lovely tone & John had a lovely touch. Whose guitar did I want mine to be? ......... Anybody in Paul Oliver's wonderful books! I couldn't make your link work, but I think you are looking at Sister Rosetta Tharpe's guitar. Definitely a very influential guitar. Time to put those glasses on again Shine On Michael.

Very nice tone on that guitar! Lightning Hopkins is a hero of mine especially being from Texas myself. If you ever get a chance you have to listen to a song he wrote called "Hurricane's Carla & Ester." Carla hit Port Lavaca Texas in 1961. I have this song on an old compilation record. He's playing electric guitar and it's hauntingly beautiful and skillfully performed. I searched but could not find a sound clip of this tune. Did I say Lightnin's my hero edit: my apology! A bit off the topic... the guitar in question is a keeper! I enjoyed the clip.

You're right Michael, it was sister rosetta's. Looks like a distressed MM blues:)
