When I was 12 I had classical guitar lessons, and my teacher had me doing all sorts of finger exercises, such as moving the thumb away from the fingers, and separating the middle and index fingers. Do you exercise your fingers?
At the time I was more into Dylan, the Byrds and Steppenwolf so I didn't perservere, though I went back at 18, as by then I was into baroque/ medieval music.

yep
Place your hand flat on a table - lift your pinky and index finger together and put em down. Do the same with the other two i.e ring & first finger. Keep going alternately until you can get a rythmn goin.
Supposed to promote independant finger movement.

Hand exercises are very good. But be careful if you are not used to doing them, you may disturb things and cause problems for yourself.
I use Chinese Baoding balls for a few minutes a day, when I remember to!
I believe the best exercise for a musicians hands is to play as it exercises the right bits.
