This looks interesting. For those who like brass slides & tonebars (steels), these look very good indeed. They are not cheap, but a brass slide made to measure is not something one would find in a pound shop. www.daddyslide.de/indexen.htmlA few years ago....actually maybe ten or fifteen years ago......I had some German Silver slides and a 'steel' handmade for me by a guy in Germany. They are beautifully made and are so good to use, and these look very similar. I don't think it is the same guy, but it could be! Shine On Michael.

HI Michael Purely out of interest, how would these tonebars work on a Weissenborn...... would they maybe too heavy , or would a glass Tonebar work better possibly being slightly lighter

Hi Growler,
A heavy brass or steel bullet tonebar will sound great on a Weissenborn.

The guy who made my German Silver slides all those years ago was Jurgen Rossa. His brand-name was 'Silverslides'. I wonder if it is the same guy? Growler, please let us know how your dealings go with ordering a slide, and tell us what it is like when it arrives. Thanks Shine On Michael

HI Michael Yes I will gladly do that ...... Is it okay to post this German Guys website without hijacking your slides thread....... It is very interesting ? the Audio samples for the weissenborns are very good . On his for sale section he has a lovely ' Wallace' Walnut weissenbborn for sale, I contacted him about the price of it just out of interest ........ good price as well www.dobro-wolfgang-reimer.de/Seite_9_1.htmregards Growler

Those look very nice indeed - i wonder if they're bored-out solid rod or plain tube?.....they certainly look like bored-out rod. About time someone produced a top-quality, heavy brass slide that can be custom-sized to players needs, and the pricing there is very competitive Slide On! Ian.

HI Michael The guy from ' daddyslide ' has just got back to me , I told him it was for a Weissenborn . I do not know whether he thinks it might be too heavy as it 260-270 gramms in weight. the Shubb SP2 I am using at the moment is about 110 - 120 grammes.
What do you think ?

Hi Growler,
That is over 9 ounces in my language! That is way too much for anybody on pretty much any guitar, unless you are looking for a particular tone & feel for a piece of music.
I thought my 5 and 6 ounce Tribotone and 6 ounce German Silver bars were heavy, but they are light in comparison. This bar is also very long at 84mm. Most bars average 70 to 75mm. The only bars like this that are widely used are by pedal steel guitarists, which I am beginning to assume these are made for. If not, he's way off. Luckily he does make to measure, so a 75mm bar is possible....and will reduce the weight, but not by 3 to 4 ounces.
Well, I found this guy, so I think I might write to him and ask a few questions. His stuff does look very well made, but you wouldn't want to drop one on your foot!
Shine On Michael.

HI Michael ........ Latest update? He has just got back to me, stating that it would be too heavy and he is hoping to knock out some 120-150 soon, when they are ready he will contact me;
Looks like it might be a call to Ian for one of his glass tonebars

Hi Growler,
I am not trying to do Ian out of any business (far from it, I am often recommending people to him for his excellent slides), but have you tried a Tribo-Tone bar from Eric at 'Tribo-Tone' in Texas? If not, you should try one. Better get a Diamond one too!

HI Michael It was decent of Jan to get back and give an explanation ........... I must admit the brass slide in the photo he has just posted looks really good, 51mm length is about the right size for a slide in my opinion

Best of both worlds Karl ~ Tribotone for bags of warmth, no string noise at all & sustain that lasts for hours - lead crystal for sweet high's and top-end 'bite' without a steel bar's heavy weight and scratchiness.....all you need to practice is holding two bars in one hand whilst playing ;D Those brass beauties really do look lovely.... Slide On! Ian.

Hi. Just to let y'all know. I bought a brass slide from Jan at Daddyslide and I'm very happy with it!
It took about 10 days to get here from the time of ordering, which is not unreasonable considering it was made to order, plus the Easter holiday got in the way.
The spec is precisely what I asked for and the finish is nothing short of excellent. Perhaps its true what they say about German engineering! Vor Sprung Durch Technique, as they say :0) I've no idea what that means, but Audi got good mileage out of it.
Anyway, if your looking for a quality brass slide, you could do worse than talk to this guy. In my humble opinion that is!
Rich.
