Hi Michael,
What's the safest way to restring a tricone to preserve the set up etc? I'm thinking in terms of not disturbing the cones etc. My usual method for single cones is one string at a time starting at the middle and working out.
Thanks

Hi Chris,
Same as you do with the single cone guitars - one string at a time. I don't think it matters which order you change them, I do them from bottom string to top string.....left to right.

New here, 1st post. Great info on the site. I have a question regarding this topic. When I change strings on one of my resonators I sometimes want to oil my fretboard as well. I usually remove all but 2 of the strings (usually leave on 3 and 5 and they remain tensioned) so I can get at the freytboard with the oil more easily. Is this OK to do?

Hi Gaucho,
Welcome to our forum.
Your method of leaving a couple of strings to keep the cone in place is fine. But it is important to be aware that every time the pressure comes off the cone it has to settle in again. I occasionally oil the fretboard on the guitars I play every day. By occasionally, I mean every few years, maybe three or four. I would not oil the fretboard more than once a year as in my opinion it is unnecessary.
Keep in touch,

Lemon Oil is the standard oil used by luthiers these days.
Luthiers vary on their opinions about using oils on fretboards. Some luthiers recommend using it and others recommend not using it. I oil my fretboards very occasionally, which is less than once a year, maybe two, three, or even four years. It is really not something you should worry about.
