I owned two '30's Duolian's back in the mid-90's ~ one 12-fret neck join to body ('33), the other a 14-fret neck to body ('35)....i still have the 12-fretter, but sold the 14-fretter - at gigs they we're affectionately known as 'Eric & Ernie'
Slide On!
Ian.

The Strat is The Yellow Bitch (an absolute slut, she plays for anybody. The acoustic is My Beloved, only sings for me.
Tradition? People have named objects for years. Probably thousands of years.

For those of you who didn't go to SlideFest I, Lucy calls her Lightning "Talulah" because she (the guitar that is) is a bit of a showgirl/flirt.... ;D

My National Student Model has been called 'Diving Duck' since 1988 when it appeared on the cover of my first album. Back in the late 1960s British acoustic blues boom I have heard that all metal-bodied National & Dobro guitars were known as 'Lawdy Mamas'. Shine On Michael.

My 000-28 is, quite simply, Miss Martin (following in the footsteps of Rev Gary Davis and his J-200 Miss Gibson).I call my Lightning "Slim" because when I first started contributing to guitar forums that was my handle - Lightning Slim: just seemed like a good bluesy name. (I was aka Lonesome Slim on a few forums too.) Of course I could always call the Lightning "Hopkins"... ;D
Love the 'Lawdy Mama' idea, Michael! Was it followed by shouts of "Great God a-mighty!"? In Newcastle they were called 'Byker fighting guitars', Byker being a particularly tough area of the Toon. In Yorkshire Byker was replaced by Barnsley!
Cheerily,
Gerry C

What a creative bunch, anyone would be forgiven for thinking you were talking of your own children, it's quite beautiful. Personally I have always refered to any guitar as a "Betsy". Many a time I have been in a car with a musician knowing Betsy will take the front seat, where there is an airbag and properly fitting seat belt... I know my place

Amongst my instruments, the only one that has a name is Nellie, a Fylde signature Octavius mandolin. Her name is engraved onto a tri-laminate plastic badge stuck on the outside of her Calton. I didn't have to name her, it was obvious ;<D

I like Ruby, Betsy , Yamuna and Govinda Hey Gouranga, I've been to the Yamuna, as it passes through Agra. If you're on Facebook I've got some photos of the Yamuna on my page
Cheers
Rob As I gaze over to the Congress I think Betsy fits just fine. She wouldn't look out of place as a prop in the film "The Betsy"

Roy Buchanans Tele was called "Nancy"
Redd Volkerts 1954 Tele is called "Ole Coalburner"
I called my MM Blues "Potemkin" for a while because it was the colour and weight of a battleship. Then I stripped the paint off it. Maybe I should call it "Shiny Beast"?
