I remember seeing that line-up at Hamersmith Odeon. It was kind of a life changing moment for me when I realised that Mr Cooder was playing ALL that stuff in open tuning, not just the slide things.
Marvellous, marvellous gig, with the Mex guys on one side of the stage and Eldridge, Bobby and Terry the other side doing all the gospel harmonies and givving it maximum Four Tops.
Ain't Flaco one of toughest looking characters you've ever seen?

That concert has been one of my 'never leaves my side' DVD & CD in the car for a long time. It is great to have it in better quality as my copy was from a VHS tape.
I think that was the first time Flaco came to the Europe and we all started to turn on to Tex Mex music. Then he started coming over with his own band and touring quite regularly. Brings back memories of the Radcliffe Arms in Oxford and WOMAD festivals at Bracknell & Reading. Flaco & Oscar Telles (his bajo sexto player back then) are great people. I haven't seen them for many years. I have a great photo somewhere of my daughter, Rosanna, at about eight years old, sitting on Flaco's knee wearing one of the band's white Stetson hats.
Shine On Michael.
