Hey Michael, Mike Dotson here. Long time no talk. This a great thread since I've long been fascinated with Ry's guitar. Recently I built a frypan copy using one of Jason's Supro re-pops and also finished this guitar, which is similar to a Coodercaster in that it has a steel pickup in the back (Horseshoe) and a Teisco Gold Foil in front.
I'd like to build another one with the Supro next.

Hi Mike,
Long time! Good to hear from you. Memories of LRC and Weissonators!
I will have a look at your guitar.
Keep in touch, Best wishes,

Still building Weissonators too! Here's the latest just about ready for the finish. I'd love to know who ended up with the one I sent to the LRC.

Nice! How hollow is it, behind the bridge too or just the wings? Have any video of you playing it?

Here is a video of what I assume is the OahuCaster in action..
Nice groove!
(I love Roger Inniss - best gigging bass player in Europe by a mile currently)

That is the Oahucaster in action, but through one of my own amps. There are a few other clips of film of this guitar in action. Here is an audio clip of the guitar recorded in 2002 on the Second Mind album. It is the Oahucaster plugged into a small National Westwood amp. www.michaelmesser.co.uk/Michael%20Messer%20LOCOMOTIVE%20SKIN.mp3Shine On Michael.

Michael, I can't compete with that - but here is what my Coodercaster sounds like. Apologies for the clumsy cut at 23.459 secs, but I didn't want to inflict the full 13 minute version on the world.. Just click the picture to hear my guitar.. I recorded it through a dual amp setup - '59 Tweed Deluxe and a '64 Twin Reverb. Backing from the excellent Michael Messer - 'Play the Blues' triple CD set - sadly no longer available.

Honeyboy, that sounds great! You have a good touch. It is also great for me to hear the Play The Blues backing tracks being used in a recording like that. It sounds cool!
Play The Blues will not be obsolete for too long. I just need to let the dust settle before reissuing it. Possibly this time as a download.
I don't know if you have my album, King Guitar, but the third track, Lone Wolf Blues, is an example of that same pickup in its original Oahu lap steel body plugged into a Mesa Boogie Mk1 amp, recorded in 1990.
Shine On Michael.

Michael, I've got King Guitar - listening to 'Lone Wolf Blues' as I type... If you are thinking about making your back catalogue available again, you should checkout Bandcamp. They handle downloads in a variety of formats, linked together with manufacturing of physical product. It is trivial to integrate their service into your own website. I know a few people who are using it, and they can't speak too highly of the service they are getting.. Here is their blogAnd a handy 'guide for drummers' - i.e. people who don't read) ;D Here is Jo Hamilton's bandcamp page for her debut album 'Gown' as an example of an artist page.

Hey Honeyboy,
Do you have any clips of your Coodercaster completely clean?

Lee, Can't wait to hear your Godin Coodercaster. I e-mailed Lollar and they say the Supro can't be combined with another pickup switching wise, so no 'in between sound'. How is yours wired?
Regards

They sound great with a very clean sound. That is really how these pickups were intended to be used. Sweet sounding Hawaiian steel guitar music.
I recorded 'Sweetheart Darling' on my 'Slidedance' album in 1990 with the Supro pickup in its original lap steel body. It is a very sweet sounding pickup. You may find that track out there somewhere on the Internet. It may be the sweetest sounding track I have recorded.
