Greetings and thank you for having me!
I have a beautiful Dobro resonator in my possession and was wondering if you fine folk could help me identify its model and year of manufacture? Pictures incoming.
Thanks and appreciation in advance.

I am not an expert on Dobros but I happen to have a Dobro catalogue pamphlet which I picked up at a guitar show in the late 70s I think. The etching pattern in the photographs is very similar to that shown in the pamphlet for the Model 33D.

Hello Greenie13
Welcome to our forum.
This a 1977 model 33 made by the OMI Dobro company.
It is a nice guitar.

My pleasure, Greenie13. It is indeed a beautiful guitar. The body is nickel plated brass with the pattern sandblasted into the nickel plating. The neck is maple. It has 10.5" resonator, which is unique to OMI Dobros. Having polished the body, to keep the shine you could give it a coat of old fashioned Turtle car wax. That will protect it for years.
Enjoy your guitar.

Thank you for the further information, Michael. I shall certainly apply some Turtle Wax to this beauty.
A little background on how I acquired the guitar; I purchased it from my mum’s boyfriend many years ago at the ridiculously low price of 200 pounds. It’s been bouncing around with me for years, from the UK, then to New Orleans, then up to New York, and back to the UK. For the last few years it has been stored at my mum’s and I missed it so much. Thankfully I just got it back here with me in NY and will not be letting it go again! I am looking forward to digging in.
Just a couple more questions; It is currently strung with Martin 80/20 bronze medium strings. Would you recommend any set of strings in particular? I am also considering having it insured. What would you recommend me insuring it for if I do so?
Thank you so much for the warm welcome and invaluable information. I have been enjoying reading through the informative posts!

My pleasure.
Regular medium gauge phosphor bronze strings 13-56 will be fine. Don't use 80/20 or coated strings, just normal strings.
Regarding your second question, I do not ever comment on value on this forum. To do that properly I would need to actually see it in the flesh. Others on here may wish to comment on its value and that is fine. When you do find out its worth, insure it for a little more than its estimated value, because these OMI-built guitars are now becoming collectable.

I use medium Gauge strings, tend not to like coated ones, insurance and value, can be subjective but if you were to replace the guitar in the region of £1000 to 1200 they are currently out in the wild for sale, also some more expensive according to condition and model. Look after it and enjoy it as it already has a story to tell.
