while it was somewhat like Homer's Oddessy to get one here to TX, it arrived. most of the problems were due to my not being set up to transfer money overseas. i broke down and joined paypal eventually, should have from the get-go.
first off, the packaging was well up to the task. a heavy duty box that arrived with only scrape marks on the tape wrapping. guit was inside with double wrapped plastic bags around soft case. was thinking Fender style padded nylon "sock", but it is more robust having hard molded inserts in it for better protection. a 3rd plastic bag was wrapped around the guit itself for extra moisture protection.
i thought the lawsuit crazy people in the US were the only ones who needed printed warning labels on large plastic bags to keep the customer from placing infants inside them. wrong. doesn't say much for our public school systems i guess. there were also no mentions about the cancer causing possibilities in California printed on bag though.
that sounding like the stupid joke it was, CBP put the guitar in jail in Lousville, KY requiring MM to give them proof there were no toxic woods used to assemble it with. and threatened to charge rent for it if not bailed out in two days. for those not familiar with US acronyms, "CBP" means customs and border protection. shouldn't that be CaBP or CABP? oh well public schools again.
FROM THEIR WEBSITE:
"With more than 60,000 employees, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, CBP, is one of the world's largest law enforcement organizations and is charged with keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. while facilitating lawful international travel and trade.
As the United Statesβ first unified border entity, CBP takes a comprehensive approach to border management and control, combining customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural protection into one coordinated and supportive activity."
today i did an extensive internet search for how many people have died after being exposed to toxic woods their guits were built from, none. it's good to know they will prevent the first casualty... guess their leaders really don't get the respect deserved here in TX.
Michael was much more than helpful in getting this done.
was pleased at the thin body design as even a dreadnought can get hard on my right shoulder after a couple of hours in my olde age. the neck isn't nearly as club like as my 1133. and with MM lights on it the action is good entire length of fret board. it came with owner's manual, a replacement set of Newtones, a glass slide and a players instructional CD for me to learn from.
was pleased after the strings eventually stretched out and tuned in, hit an open D with vigor. not a Townshend class "windmill", just smartly. the guit held the chord for nearly a half minute, and it is still new...
about my only snivel is that MM's "warm sounding" description doesn't do it justice.
so i thought for a long while about better adjectives, and realized i have no future waiting in a Wall Street Advertising Agency.
this'n is a keeper,
