better said, single or double mistakes?
week or so ago i posted in a thread about the pros and cons of hollow body electrics that my Epiphone 5102T had hot single coils in it disguised under a humbucker cover. this was a misunderstanding of what i had read about them in the past, and very literally only half true.
attempting to conceal any abject laziness traits on my part, it seems wise to quote intelligent mechanics who advise, "if it ain't broke don't fix it!". as such, the need to gut my PUPs for a look-see has never arisen.
after following the "Supro weak magnet" thread with keen interest i dug deeper into the Epiphone 5102 model to try to figure out what made the PUPs in it so good to my ears. have learned these were not true traditional single coils or dual coil "humbuckers", but a hybrid that has one weak coil in dual coil configuration with its other unimpeded coil. the weaker side acts ONLY to reduce hum for the single coil powerhouse.
as such it not really single or double.
also learned that Matsumoko built electric guitars and/or components in the late 60s through mid 70s [in alphabetical order] for...

oh yeah, the double mistake part mentioned above. they weren't hot the PUPs imagined by me. so perhaps their endearing quality was the hybrid PUP sonic qualities? don't really know. the "EA-250" designation is wrong but note 4.7K and 4.8K ohm markings:
