Hi all I was wondering if there’s any good books available on resonator guitars since buying my beautiful MM Blues guitar I’ve become very interested in the history and different types of resonators hoping to find out more about them

Merry Christmas Gary! There is really only one book to get, and that is the definitive book on the subject of resonator guitars. Mark Makin's wonderful book - "Palm Trees, Rocket Ships.... and Senoritas" markmakin.co.ukThis book might appear expensive, but there is nothing else that can touch it. A lifetime's work and a lifetime's read. Shine On Michael

Amen to that. A beautiful book. As already said, Mark M’s book is the definitive work. Before this was a1993 book by Bob Brozman ( Mark contributed to this book )the History &Artistry of National Resonator Instruments. Bob’s book is great if you have never seen Mark’s, but not nearly as inclusive ( Bob really only like ‘shiny’ guitars so a lot were overlooked) Mark has tried to describe every National and Dobro made, with pictures of most models, this includes amps ,lap steels and electrics produced by the Dopyera brothers. Before that there was the ‘ DOBROists Scrapbook’. by Bev King . A few articles and reprinted old catalogs, some interesting bits of information about construction and players. Pete There is still a gap in the literature, a book on the construction of resonator guitars would be good, and one on all the other producers of reso guitars.
