Hi again ! Shame, the guy in the video doesn't actually play any slide on the guitar - so I've no idea what it would sound like with a slide. It struck me though that the fairly bass-y tone might be similar to Muddy Waters' 1942 Library of Congress recordings guitar tone So, I wonder if Muddy Waters was playing a reso guitar with a Schireson cone ?? Certainly, the guitar he is pictured with looks like something with a similar (but not exact) reso coverplate. Bottleneck John has a guitar with one of those Schireson cones in it, I think ?? What do YOU think, Johan ??

Just had one of these pass through the household and it has had a National cone conversion, I took it to a local luthier yesterday for some cosmetic considerations as it was previously stripped and in a sorry state but in it's own way a fantastic beater. Sound wise I like it, not unlike a wooden bodied NRP. I am only the courier for this as it is a friends guitar and he ants it to be given a little TLC. will try and see if I have any photos on my phone.
Regards
Lee

My thread though was about how these Schireson cones sound. And as the one you momentarily have has had a conversion to a National biscuit cone, it's not quite in the vein of what I was discussing entirely ! Good try though, ha ha !!

I totally forgot about you buying one of those guitars, Prof ! Must have come over to yours some weekday, lunchtime or after work !!!
Must have been one of those legendary operating sessions !!
When was this, roughly ?
Do you still have that guitar ??

Oh yes it had ! I've had a big quiff since I was about 15yrs old - And I'm 52 now !! The Prof has rather cruelly cropped off 90% of my quiff.

Gentlemen, please! ....While in that photo I do agree that Richard is sporting a fine suit and an impressive quiff, and I promise you this is not jealousy or envy, as while I am a conehead now, there was a time when I had more hair on my head than all the forum members put together. BUT.....this is not a sartorial forum, it a place of music and musical instruments. Please.....let's talk Shireson cones on this thread. Now THIS is a quiff .... and it's a musical one! Final comment then, as much as to prove that my quiff is very much still there, AND it’s a musical photo though, that includes National guitars : (Prof Scratchy on the left, playing a 1932 Polychrome Triolian, young Thomas Lucas on harmonica in the middle, and me on the right, playing my all-steel, 1930 National Style O, with a bluesy suit on and a quiff-tastic hair-do that I think even Little Richard would be proud to have (and it’s real, not a wig !). I’ll leave it at that, point taken, Michael ! Attachments:
