I have decided to sell my Guild F212 12 string, which is in very good condition and benefits from a Seymour Duncan Mag Mic pickup. I play bass mostly these days and I find I am just not using this beauty.
This is one of the earlier GAD (Chinese made) Guilds but don’t let that put you off, it is extremely well made It has some touches that I have only seen on really expensive high end acoustics. The tone woods are much higher quality than you will see on recent Far Eastern made Guilds and are better than those on my much more expensive Taylor 314. The spruce top has a lovely close grain with beautiful silking and the back and sides are genuine Mahogany rather Sapele. The book matching of top and back is excellent and there is even a marquetry stripe down the back join. The back and side binding are Mahogany, the fretboard rosewood and the three piece neck has twin truss rods. I have only ever used 10-47 strings on it but I get the impression it would easily take 12s or heavier without needing to tune down. There is no lifting of the bridge, or pulling up of the top as can happen with twelves.
I have fitted a Seymour Duncan Mag Mic sound hole pickup with a strap button jack socket. The 9v battery is fixed inside the body to the neck heel. I chose the MagMic as I am not a great fan of under saddle piezos and the mic does provide a bit of air to the sound. It also has 12 individually adjustable pole pieces. There are controls for volume and mic blend on the pickup body. The only other mod I have made to the guitar is to swap the original wood (ebony I think) bridge pins for Graphtec. The original pins will come with the guitar.
There is some light wear to the frets in the cowboy chord position but nothing that affects playability. There are some very minor nibbles to the mahogany binding that are hard to see but can be felt if you run your finger round the edge. There are some tiny scratches from handling in the poly finish and on the headstock from string changing but these are too minor to show in the photos. You probably can see that there is a patch of milky bloom under the poly on the front of the headstock. The excellent retro look tweed case is unmarked as far as I can see.
If you don’t know this model it has the small jumbo F-40 Valencia body shape with a 16” lower bout, pinched waist and narrow shoulders. I pulled these specs off the GAK website and they seem pretty accurate to me, except I think the nut and bridge are what Guild call “nubone”, which is like Graphtec Tusq: www.gak.co.uk/en/guild-gad-f212-12-string/38970. Also the nut width is 1.9” according to my digital callipers and it has a tort pickguard, not clear.
I am going to be at the Pocklington weekend (17-19 Nov 23), so if you are attending and are interested in this guitar, please let me know by Thursday and I will bring it with me. Otherwise try and buy in Fakenham, Norfolk. I can probably find suitable packaging if you want me to courier it at your expense.
I am looking for £400 ono, which I think is a bargain for what is a quality instrument. I will throw in a new set of Elixir Nanoweb coated strings as well.
