Hi there, from a massive Elmore fan myself. The 4CD boxed set is on what label ? Some boxed sets are better than others, in terms of sound quality. However, any Elmore James you can get you hands on worth the money ! Attachments:

RED BOX 4 is the catalogue number of the Complete Chess, Chief & Fire Sessions on Charly Records. It is as Snakehips has already said, the best sounding set of James's work that we know of. Having said that, there may well be a better one available as the Charly set is quite old now.
Those four CDs will keep you busy for a while. Enjoy!

Hi again !
I forgot that set had the Chess recordings too. Hopefully it has the Sammy Myers track "Poor Little Angel Child" on it. Sammy Myers played harmonica on the quite famous Elmore tune, Look On Yonder Wall, but got to sing with Elmore & band backing him. Such a great song, of many !
If you are interested in getting EVERYTHING that Elmore recorded on, as a frontman AND backing artist, you need these :
1. Ace 3 CD Boxed set of Elmore James recordings 1951-1956 2. "Calling All Blues" - Junior Wells first recordings - Junior is backed by Elmore & his Broomdusters, in 1953, at Universal Studios in Chicago. (on the 2nd half of the album, Junior is back by essentially Little Walters' band, and some tracks with Earl Hooker) 3. There is a compilation album that has virtually all Little Johnny Jones's original recorded (except the two on the Elmore Ace 3CD boxed set) - backed by Elmore & his band, including one track with Elmore playing slide un-amplified ! (I'll look out the album & let you know)

Elmore James' sessions with others are well worth hearing. One of my favourites is this one, TV Mama with Big Joe Turner.

I know this song (TV Mama), but I had no idea that Elmore is on it. It should have crossed my mind, because it's typical Elmore's playing...

I've got 20+ albums and a similar amount of cds and recording quality aside it's hard to find a bad Elmore tune! Elmore for slide, Bo for rhythms and Chuck for lyrics 🤩🙂. And in the 60's clubs everywhere had bands trying to play all three! Heaven!
Best wishes to you all, John

I think Elmore might be on another one or two tracks backing Big Joe Turner, BUT I don't think his playing is as obvious sounding like him. Again, I think this was from circa 1953 at Universal Studios, in Chicago. Lots of crazy good music coming from that studio. I think even early Chess Records recordings were done at Universal Studios, until their own recording set-up was good enough. Need to re-read my books on Muddy, Little Walter to clarify that perhaps !
